G Great assessment of both fights. I would add that Fury’s success in the first fight made a second fight interesting at the time, despite it being a clear victory for Usyk. Usyk didn’t pull the fight away til he hurt Fury, so the question was can Fury make the adjustments and / or improve his conditioning enough to pull it off in the second fight. I’m of the mind that he could have done better, but he brought the wrong gameplan in trying to come in heavy and muscle Usyk around. These heavies should have learned by then, Usyk just isn’t there to be muscled around. Hes great at keeping his range, and is cagey and slippery enough inside and in the clinch to get back to his range.
I remember live giving 3 and 12 to Fury but waffling on re-watch I cant remember if it was 7 or 8 where Fury did well but Usyk dominated the final stretch I remember 12 being close but I don't remember 11 being close. I may have to watch that round back
I agree Joshua should have maintained the weight from Ruiz II Wilder should not have bulked up for the 2nd and 3rd Fury fight Fury should try and get closer to the Wlad weight
Some really good responses on here. Creating a separate post for the 2nd fight which just watched. Nowhere near as good as the first fight.
Fury looked like he was going to win the first fight but Usyk came back strong. Usyk never looked in doubt to win the second fight. I think Usyk worked Fury out and Fury had no answer.
To me round 7 was the important in the first fight. Fury looked almost in control after round 6. Usyk came out for round 7, adapted and did not let Fury continue his good work. Round 8 was Usyk's round before the classic 9th round. Fury fought well in a classic contest but Usyk showed why he was a special fighter that night.
Fury maybe doesn't deserve another shot at Usky. But his the only person that can run him close/has a chance
Indeed. That round summed up Usyk's promise to never leave Fury alone. The Ukrainian had had a bad sixth but kept pressuring. Both were battling for control. You could feel something building. Also, people forget that the ninth, prior to the big moment, was a great round with lots of back-and-forth action. It was precisely because of Usyk's pace that Fury (probably when he fancied a break) was unable to spot the big left.
TBF when even miniq admits Usyk definitely won both fights, you know there genuinely isn't a case that Fury won either... I don't think there are more invested fans for Fury than that - certainly not without ridiculously OTT narratives they're trying to defend.
Yea, there's no questions left to answer. I don't think you can make a genuine case for any trilogies with Usyk... All were clearly beaten both times, only one actually did slightly better second time (AJ) but even there, there just isn't an open question to justify a trilogy. There aren't really any fights left that offer the same level of challenge. Usyk's at an age where he should be declining, but that simply leaves the question of when he's declined enough to be beaten, and whether he values his 0 more than trying to stubbornly prove he's still got it until someone proves he hasn't. End of the day though, he's cleared the division already - all that's left are scraps, by comparison.
