As it says,any one on this list that you think is overrated in terms of punching power? Deontay Wilder ? Earnie Shavers? Frank Bruno? Ron Lyle? David Tua?
I mean I say it all the time, but Lyle didn't really knock out ranked contenders. I sometimes wonder what punching power is supposed to mean if it doesn't mean that, knocking out experienced men with developed punch resistance.
I think we seen what Ron's power was able to do with Foreman's chin (yes, I know he looked exhausted, but how many times has Foreman been slumped). I think this is one of those occasions where a guy clearly hits hard but doesn't necessarily have the ability to consistently land punches that his higher class opponents can't see coming and thus genuine knock out power type punches are braced for/rolled with.
I don’t think Shavers was overrated in the slightest. He was a subpar technician. That meant he couldn’t throw multiple hard shots together; he’d lunge with huge swinging things and fall terribly off-balance. His one-shot power is unparalleled for a heavy, I think. Lyle is probably the correct answer here. He was more a boxer-puncher really. Very solid power, he’d hurt you for sure, but not exactly crippling one-shot stuff.
Agree 100% ,,ask Leroy Caldwell who fought everyone who hit harder Shavers or Foreman,,he said and I quote,,"Shavers hit harder by far, by far more than George ..
Frank Bruno is the only one of those four who opponents did not consistently cite as having supreme punching power. (In fact, did even a single opponent rate Frank tops for punching power?)
For a more recent example power is frequently brought out with Teo in terms of the lighter weights when he only has a 60% ko rate

Tua. Can make a case for Bruno but hes got one of the highest KO rates in HW history. I feel Bruno was probably very overrated during his actual career but the British becoming the number 1 boxing country has freed up the British to be more honest about their past icons. The rest no. They are what they are.
As already mentioned, Ron Lyle’s punching ability could have been tested against a few more high caliber opponents. But even he was a legitimate hitter in my book. All the guys on that list could punch and are rightfully accredited as such
