Oleksandr Usyk is the only Eastern European fighter to ever beat boxing.

You haven't beaten boxing until you have got away from it.

A case in point being Roy Jones and there are many more who outstayed their welcome after appearing to have conquered the sport.

Good point but as it stands he's got it beat, at the moment even if he finished on a loss.

Usyk's not gonna ruin his legacy now, I don't believe. He could lose but it won't greatly hurt his legacy. He's not the type to hang around and get ko losses like Jones Jr. I think you could argue that Jones beat boxing, in a sense. Jones had already accomplished enough. No one got near him in his prime. You can lose and still beat the game.

The other asterisk in Wlads favour, as you put it, is he didn't get the opportunity to rematch Fury and set the record straight.

Not guaranteed he'd have won, obviously, but it left an open question...

Usyk, by contrast, shut off any asterisk by beating AJ twice and then beating Fury twice (and especially with Fury, in dominant fashion second time around)... Heck, rematching Dubois even though he'd won clearly, just to get rid of a bs narrative shuts out any conversation of asterisks.

Technically true, but Wlad was 39 when a 27-year-old Fury beat him, and he was 41 when a 27-year-old Joshua beat him.

Wlad has the better record. Better than Usyk.

It's funny reading comments "Usyk could do ..." this and that, and "Usyk would never lose to .... "
But actually he's faced a grand total of THREE (Joshua, Fury, Dubois) top 10 ranked heavyweights, and ONE 'fringe' ranked heavyweight (Chisora).

If someone like Dubois was in Wlad's era, you wouldn't even remember them. He'd be dismissed as another 'bum of the month' on Wlad's resume.

He did indeed beat, abused and humiliated boxing. But the original statement about him being the only EE to do so is a little disrespectful towards what Wlad's accomplished during 2006-2015.

Ok, how about Puritty, Sanders and Brewster? Actually, Williamson should be a legit loss also, Wlad quit after that knock down.

    Your examples/logic aren’t the same.

Vitali was considered the best HW after Lennox had retired.

Vitali then had to retire through injury.

Before that, he avenged a loss for Wlad.

He then came back after a long lay off, where Wlad didn’t get the opportunity to pick up Vitali’s WBC belt.

Many people, me included, only saw Wlad as being the main man, once Vitali had retired and he had the opportunity to reign.

When Vitali returned, there was then another question mark on who the better HW was.

Of course Wlad fought more. Of course he has the better resume. Because his career was significantly longer, where he had significantly more fights.

Yes, he did share the era though.

He shared the era, because they both held belts and avenged each others losses.

And if Vitali hadn’t have retired when he did, who knows how Wlad’s resume/career would have unfolded.

    That’s true.

But the circumstances were vastly different.

Wlad was about 40, with almost 70 fights on his resume.

No it was flash KD more due to a lack of balance Wlad won most the other rounds.

Yeah but a lot of these eastern European fellas have drawn the short straw in the land of Americana and not got the decisions they deserved.. GGG Canelo, Loma Haney & Ward Kovalev were all robberies.. boxrec doesn't tell the full story of how their careers actually played out.
