I can not imagine a world without belts
Without them, there is no journey, no final sporting goal
The Rocky moments we occasionally get in boxing would be pointless without titles

Good fights are always what we wants as fans but there needs to be a journey to follow or else it's just a boxing match and no more

    I did see that.

And that's what leads me to the logic of......Why didn't the WBC just have him pay the fee for being the holder of the WBC at 140lbs since he was the current holder. Why attach anything about the 135lb title to this fight. Then, unless Shakur pays that fee, they can strip the 140lbs title. Or do they have all of versions of the titles as one

I honestly feel like there should just be one belt per division. The rest of the sanctioning bodies can exist all they want. Award their number one contenders with a belt, but the only title for that division should be solidified and that being the belt that everyone is grinding for.

That would be the best case scenario

Money unfortunately means we got to watch this stuff be mismanaged an abused by orgs

At about 5:30 he answers the question, yes the WBC after talking a lot of hot air the previous 5 min said they asked Shakur for 120k for his Teo fight

Exactly.... I don't know. I may be a bit ignorant and naive because I'm not the one dropping millions to put these events on, but I don't see why each sanctioning body wouldn't just simply run their own tournaments amongst their top10-15 fighters to have a solid 2 or 3 eligible to be the actual "Champion" in the division. I know they have little tournaments for their own belts in the past, but I'm thinking if the WBO has a tournament and the WBC has a tournament, those winners face off to face the winner of the WBA and IBF tournaments, and who comes out of that scuffle is the actual champion of the division. Then the champion can defend it against one of the tournament champions he didn't face because sometimes the cliche reigns true.....styles make fights.

    This would:
-allow the sanctioning bodies to continue to have their 'belts' and fees associated with it....
-we as fans get to see the top guys face each other and less meaningless fights being promoted for the fans' top dollar
-it would be hard to promotion companies to strictly stay in house with a title because unless they have a deep roster, their fight would have to fight someone "across the street" in order to accomplish their goal.
-it could eliminate YouTubers like Jake Paul trying to get sanctioning bouts of him trying to fight lightweights like Tank Davis and Davis not get stripped of his world champion status.
-eliminate fighters using the excuse that they are getting avoided and using that as a marketing tool for their career.

Easy, if a fighter doesn't want to or feels he isn't ready to face the top guy(s), then he can choose not to participate in this tournament. You have to be in the top10 of that sanctioning body's rankings to be eligible. I don't want boxing to turning a League or Association with a commissioner and all like the other major sports, but I do want to see a little more structure in determining who the best are competing in the sport rather than this cluster ...... of shirts and ties trying to maximize their income off the backs of these warriors while also, watering down the product that they are giving the fans.

Aww, I appreciate it. And I was able to find the rule they are speaking of. Long story short, the WBC attaches the fee to the fighter who is of status as their champion, not the actual event they are participating in. So, that dollar amount was attached to Shakur, the champion....not the bout in which he is competing outside of his division he holds the title. So it is in the rules, but it is an unjust rule, because they don't enforced it with the same energy towards everyone. Their a lot of their rules they bend for specific fighters as was pointed out in this video by Mannix. Charlo, Canelo, Tank Davis, etc.....all have carried the WBC champion status for over 2 years without honoring a mandatory fight and weren't stripped.

You are getting things mixed up here. Stevenson got stripped of the title because he refused to pay the WBC what was effectively a sanctioning fee for his fight with Teofimo, a fight that did not have any WBC belt on the line.

Charlo was allowed to keep his title for several years when he was not fighting at all. However, we don´t know if Charlo paid the WBC a fee for his fight with Jose Benavidez Jr in 2023. That fight was at a catchweight and Charlo was still the WBC champion at 160.
I think its most likely that Charlo was not asked to pay this fee, unlike Stevenson.

You might be right when it comes to Canelo, as he was the WBC champion at lower weights both times he fought at 175, and I could not find anything about him having to pay a fee to the WBC. Its most likely that they did not ask him to pay this fee, but we cant know for sure.

Tank has never fought in a WBC sanctioned fight.

Not mixed up at all. It goes without saying, at least I thought it was obvious, that the situations weren't parallel. I understand the differences. My point was that they were willing to bend the rules a bit for different fighters and/or they don't require the same standard across the board for each fighter for examples like you gave above with the Charlo vs Benavidez fight.

P.S. You right about Tank, I mistook his WBA title for the WBC.....but this is also why I feel the sanctioning bodies need to be eliminated due to the fact they don't uphold identical standards for their champions and contenders. Getting and obtaining one title shouldn't be easier to do than the other.

On the other hand I take two equally matched greatly hyped contenders without belts involved over lots of boring matchups with belts involved...

In the end a matchup is worth as much as the fighters involved, not the belts.

The belts are a heuristic and often a bad one. When you have guys like usyk or crawford or inoue, people have to be casuals or blind not to know what they bring.

Belts help make a case for those fighter's worth, but that just makes my point: it's for the casuals not for the hardcore fans. And it's for the fighters, legitimately, because they want to prove themselves and the belts are the one way to do it.
