Unfortunately, there are numerous examples of very talented amateur boxers who turned professional and never realized their full potential.

Obviously there are huge notable exceptions (Loma, Usyk etc) but fighters who turns pro in their mid 20’s and beyond often struggle with the transition from amateur boxing, especially Brits. See Luke Campbell, Frankie Gavin, Conlan etc.

A lesser-known one I always remember is Jamie Branch, won pretty much everything as a junior with Repton, turned over, then got clipped twice in the first round in 2 of his first 4 fights and basically packed it in early, finishing 1-2-1.

Just shows how the pro game can be a completely different planet, mentally and physically. I believe his son is now under Warren and Queensberry and doing pretty well.

I clearly remember James Branch and it still hurts me that he didn't make it.

I remember Boxing Video Monthly had a interview with Frank Warren where he was asked about James Branch's failed pro career.

His lad got to 7-0 and then had a 5 year break.

    Made his comeback in November

He was on the "Winner Stays On" event at York Hall. His opponent had a record of 5 wins 105 losses 5 draws.

Yeah both looked like special P4P talents in the amateurs. Selby skills were so impressive in the World Series of Boxing, you'd have thought he'd have been nailed on to be a star in the pros, Conlan too.

I just think Conlans problem was adapting to the pros, he didn't have the chin or the power for the pro game.. And Selby wasn't mentally right or dedicated enough with a lot of issues outside of the ring, and never had a good promoter backing him.

Luke Campbell did good but was unluckly. He should have been a world champion. The WBC messed him around when he was due a shot. And then he beat Linares but didn't get it, if he'd have got the decision that night you'd have not mentioned him

I like Luke Campbell (and I also loved Linares TBF), but I disagree on this one. I felt the fight with Linares was razor close, with Campbell closing down the stretch, but the knockdown probably swung it in Linares' favour and he was the just winner.

He was supposed to fight Fortuna in 2020 for the vacant WBC after Haney got made champion in recess due to injury. Covid hit and by the time boxing was allowed again Haney had recovered.

The buzz for this weekends fight couldn't be any lower.

The Bilal Fawaz fight is very good, the rest including the main event is irrelevant

DAZN getting left behind? Netflix doing shows, and you’ve got Zuffa & MVP joining Sky.

Once my sub is done then I’ll be done. There’s enough boxing elsewhere to keep me going.

    Netflix
    Zuffa & MVP on Sky
    Boxxer on BBC
    Odd channel 5 show
