Those two wins don't scream TITLE SHOT but they are better than anything anyone else other than Kabayel did last year so just by default I'd say he's most deserving.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind Hrgovic getting a crack at either Wardley or Kabayel. Or Dubois.

If we're going off of a fighter's whole resume and not just recent wins then Joshua deserves the shot at Wardley more than Dubois (better resume) but no one is going to argue that. The point is Dubois only had one fight last year and it was a KO loss, regardless of what he did before he doesn't 'deserve' a title shot when they are more active fighters. Ajagba deserved the win over Bakole which is a top 10 win.

At least I don't think anyone can accuse Dubois of being a duck. He's already got Joyce, Lerena, Miller, Hrgovic, AJ and Usyk on his record... And now he plans to fight Wardley.

So now you are picking and choosing what timelines are appropriate to judge. And you are also having to re-write official outcomes to fit your views.
Yea, Dubois fought only once last year, but that fight was against Usyk of all people. Gassiev was more active than Dubois, does he deserve that shot instead?
You are literally holding against Dubois the fact that he is constantly fighting the best in the world. Very few in the division have as deep as a resume as he does, especially in recent years.

... I cant believe I am defending Dubois here...

So he's like the Evander Holyfield of 2020's.

Plus, if you're limiting it to approx one years activity, then Kabayel falls WAY down the list in a couple of weeks time...

Because while Hrgovic only has the zombie of a fringe contender and a euro level journeyman, Kabayel ONLY has a euro level journeyman the moment Zhang ticks past 365 days.

The important thing is that the best fight the best as much as possible...
Contenders fighting gatekeepers (including guys like Hrgovic and Sanchez) is absolutely fine - there aren't many contenders to go around and we'd have endless rematches otherwise.

But at the same time, let's not pretend that those gatekeepers are the most deserving in the world when they're clearly a level below - if those fights happen it's absolutely fine (and miles better than champions fighting journeymen and domestic level fighters).

Absolutely right - beating the shot remains of Joyce, who was only ever a fringe contender at absolute best, and a journeyman who barely counts as an international level win... It ain't all that.

I'd be fine with Dubois rematching Hrgovic - and I don't dislike Hrgovic, he's just limited.

I generally think that if someone comprehensively loses a title shot, he should have to win at least 2 high-level fights before another one, but that's alphabet titles for ya.

By my metric, Dubois definitely earned his second shot by beating Miller, Hrgovic, AJ (honestly a run of wins as good as anyone outside Usyk has had in years), but him getting a shot now is pure Queensbury privilege.

That said, it's a fun fight and intriguing in and of itself, so I'm not too bothered.

It would be a fight between 2 legitimate top 10 guys, if not top 5, but you are against it because of an arbitrary rule you have come up with. Mind you, there are 4 world titles and currently 2 champions.

Also it does, we are arguing over getting title shots. You're being disingenuous with that usyk comment.

Usyk dropped his belt to Wardley instead of making the fight thats why there are 2 champions. Usyk being the man of the division doesn't change this

Lerena and Miller don't belong on a list of people who are ducked.

Once you get the word champion next to your name, you’re guaranteed at least 2 or more title shots just for name value and resume purposes. Dubois is not the first and will not be the last ex champion getting undeserved title shots.
