Hearns vs Curry at welter

Hearns would get the Shelby. Probably with in 8rds.
Just like Milton Mccory turned out NOT to be the next Thomas Hearns, Donald Curry didn't turn out to be the next Ray Robinson, or Ray Leonard, as some of the boxing mags of the era prematurely claimed he'd be.
A lot a people got fooled by Curry's destruction of McCory. And that fight ( Destruction ) catapulted Curry into very rare air of being compared to Robinson, ( He had passed Leonard by some writers of the era)
But there were clues of "fools gold ".
Curry was dropped a couple times against fighters that shouldn't have been able to do so.
His gun slinger stance was also a sign he could have issues getting out the way from counters, prime example was the McCallum fight, where that stance was exploited beautifully with a left hook counter that was wide and Curry should've been able to see and move away from it. Or duck.
He didn't do neither, got koed with one shot by a excellent fighter in McCallum, but one not known for one punch ko power.
So now bring in possibly the greatest puncher in history from welterweight to Lt. Heavy in Hearns. A fighter Curry wouldn't have a speed advantage over, or skills, or even chin and ability to fight through adversity.
Hearns fought and beat better competition than Curry faced. Hearns damn near beat the 2nd best welterweight in history in Leonard by adjusting his style, showing he was more than a stalking Bomber.
Hearns jab was probably the best from welterweight to Lt.heavy.
Curry would be out of his league against Hearns and gets koed with 8-9 rds tops.
Hearns drives home in the Shelby Cobra.

I think you’re trying to disincentivize Hearns by offering a British car (or at least one with a Brit body stretched over some American horsepower). No self-respecting Motor City Cobra would be caught driving an automobile that wasn’t Detroit-made through and through.

Sure, a Cincinnati Cobra like Ezzard or a Texas rattlesnake like Don Curry (he was no Cobra) might appreciate fine UK aerodynamics, but Thomas would be more motivated by a vintage Mustang or a souped-up Thunderbird.

Give him some real American muscle on wheels to fight for and Hearns might put Donald through the canvas.

 

Hearns wa far better than Curry and had too much reach and power, he would have destroyed Curry and anybody Curry ever beat, Benitez is better than anybody Curry beat.

I love both fighters and many people are under selling a prime Curry.
At his best he had a great defense very air tight and he slipped punches very well.
And he was much stronger then given credit for as not too many welterweights are going to rag doll a Marlon Starling (2nd fight).
As far as getting knocked down I only remember Curry getting floored once and it was in his title fight.
And lets not kid ourselves Curry was picking apart Mike MCcallum pretty easily until he got caught and spare me the "Mike was setting him up " because he was not.
I would lean towards Hearns but this would not be an easy fight by any means.
I would actually pick Curry's single hook that dropped Mccroy up against any single shot in the welterweight division.

 

Bruce and Curry were two completely different fighters.

 

I agree, and the hook he sent McCrory to dream land with would do the same to Tommy.. No doubt Hearns is the favorite but Curry is a more than live underdog

Anyway on the subject of commas, Tommy would put Donald in one, especially if Donald didn't duck.

 

No, McCallum started to dominate from the third round and Curry's eye began to shut, he wouldn't be able to deal with Tommy's long jab or his devastating right hand, he was hurt by Honeyghan and Hearns hit much harder than Honeyghan.
