Tommy Morrison resume

His resume is quite good, but certainly not great.

We can categorize his top wins as follows :
- faded ex top contenders in Tillis, Ruddock and Williams (both of the two in exciting and decisive crossroads fights) ;
- fringe contenders in Vaulin and Hipp ;
- shot former champion in Thomas ;
- former great champion in Foreman.
Morrison was also often lethal against subpar opposition.

Best win : Foreman, because of the stature of the opponent, the title at stake (even if it was a minor one) and the way he cleverly fought.
It was a very good win.

2nd best win : Ruddock in a exciting crossroads fight. An even lesser title was at stake, but the highlight lies in the fact that Morrison was able to overcome first a knockdown, and then escape a perilous situation with a tremendous counter left hook to get the stoppage.

3rd best win : Williams, mainly because of the name of the opponent and the number of turnaround.

4th best win : Hipp. Morrison showed all his heart and courage.

5th win : Thomas. While the former champion was shot, nobody stopped him quicker and it helped Morrison gaining recognition.



About his defeats :
Morrison only lost thrice, however two of his defeats were almost completely one-sided (Bentt and Lewis) while the first finished in a frightening KO (Mercer).
To be fair, he started very well against Mercer before his lack of ring IQ, stamina and defensive abilities showed up.
The Bentt loss hurt him the most, because he was the least regarded of the three and happened in the 1st round after Morrison seemed on his way to knock him out.

 

Morrison was scheduled to fight Lewis but took a stay busy fight with Bentt. He blew a 7 million dollar payday. Obviously he showed up unprepared and overconfident but he always looked to be in great shape (juicing??) What if he had fought Lewis in 93? Same outcome as their actual fight in 95?

 

Same. I just watched his his fight with Purrity a couple of days ago. He had no gas tank in that fight and got rocked and dropped in the middle of of it too. He’d simply gas out and get stopped unless he got chin checked early. He was more of a fringe top ten operator than a serious threat.
