He was a great fighter and one of the best showmen in boxing. He just could not bounce back from a loss. Some guys can't.
I don't think so, partly because his hands were an issue at that point and in the end I think Barrera was just the smarter more complete fighter. It would of been more competitive but in the end Barrera would find a way to win.
To beat Barrera you have to play dirty back that Antonio sure loved getting cheap when frustrated with his elbows headbutts
Hamed's loss to Barrera is blown out of proportion. The fight was of course not close, but competitive, as evidenced by the scorecards 116-111 and 115-112 (twice). And Barrera is a great fighter.
I would say absolutely. He ticks all the boxes for a hype-job promoted from the UK. Yes, he even had the most obvious theatrical hype to hype his hype.
Not a hype job but he is overrated, especially in terms of resume. Amazing talent but with extreme stylistic deficiencies. Technical operators at or near the elite level in history would make him look silly. His power and reflexes, however, would serve him very well against other punchers, plodders and obviously chinny guys. All in all a top talent who could've been even better imo.
A friend of a friend did rounds with him in England in the late 90's. Said he couldn't lay a glove on him. Sparred him early 2000's and Naz had lost all his timing. Lit him up.
A shame since his talent level was immense. If he kept training diligently and refined his style a little he would've had an insane career imo. Would've been really interesting to see him against Marquez, since JMM was better schooled but hated to lead the action. Naz's reflexes would've bothered him imo.
Nah hamed was the real deal there was nobody to really challenge him at the lower weights 126 he was pretty tapped out If he was more disciplined he could have had a longer career. I believe he quit before 30
