If forced to choose I’d lean towards Joe Frazier to either win a decision or very late stoppage. But it would be a hellacious night for both men. Joe Frazier in 1970 and Evander Holyfield in 1990 were in elite physical shape and had an equal fighting heart. This would be bloody, action packed and fought almost exclusively on the inside. Wouldn’t be surprised to see an accidental head butt or two. Probably one of the most intense brawls we can think of.
In that single round had the ref not stepped between them it's not hard to imagine Cooper landing a flush shot that would end Holyfield. Cooper then defends against Tyson who squeezes Holyfield out of the title picture and defends against Foreman, a come backing Holmes, Bowe, Lewis, possibly Mercer, Morrison, Moorer and all the while Holyfield needing to climb that ladder again. Just from a single round.
Then why didn't Cooper stop him if it was such a bad match up stylistically ? Holyfield beat him up in every other round and knocked him out. Tyson lost to Douglas who then got destroyed by Holyfield. Lewis lost to Rahman and then obliterated him in the rematch, but if that rematch never happened Rahman would be seen as a better fighter than Lewis and stylistically all wrong for him for many viewers. Fraizer got dropped 3 times by Bonavena who is even more crude than Cooper. This stuff happens. Holyfield has a deeper resume than Frazier and beat bigger punchers than Fraizer. I'm not going to sideline all of this over 1 bad round against a pressure fighter who could very well hit harder than Fraizer despite the gap in skill. Frazier stopped guys with volume and timing that left hook right on the chin, he wasn't some huge puncher and his durability wasn't better than Holyfields
All the ref did was count after Holyfield went down, he didn't give Holyfield extra time to recover. So the argument makes no sense
Never said that. The ref got in between them before the knockdown and had Cooper been a better finisher he would've pounced on Holyfield while the ropes held him up. That's all I was saying bro.
