Two HW bouts in the 90s just one year apart that gained notoriety mainly due to the foul filled uncontrolled nature which ended in disgrace along with post-fight civil unrest and brawls. I was very young when these two fights took place so I'm curious which one was more infamous and gained more attention at the time. I would think that a casual fan who was witnessing either of those two events would have been turned off from wanting to watch another boxing fight. Which did more harm to the sports reputation? Im going bite fight just because of how big the event was and how surprising it was to see Tyson unravel before our very eyes.
Tyson and Holyfield was watched by far more people. Both events are legendary for their chaos, but the Holyfield-Tyson Bite Fight edges out as more infamous. It shocked the world, led to Tyson's suspension, and remains a pop culture staple. Bowe-Golota's low-blow DQ and riot were wild, but less enduring in boxing lore.
Tyson was way more infamous. A bunch of rappers were writing lines about it. I can't say the same for Golota.
The Tyson fight is something even people who've never seen a second of boxing know about, obviously elevated due to Tyson being a celebrity atp.
Both were disgraceful affairs but I think the ear bite debacle attracted more attention from the general public
The ear bite is part of pop culture. The ballsack beatdown is a part of boxing lore but not pop culture
