Styles make fights, guys. And there is not a chance on earth that Curry could beat Hearns. Not even a maybe.

Some posts in here are bending over backwards to make the case for Curry, but they are simply kidding themselves on.

Punching hard and having one punch KO power are two different things, Hearns was more of a finisher at welter than Curry.

I think Hearns was more explosive but Curry could take you out with 1 shot too.

At his best who knows although I like both fighters I would tend to lean towards Hearns Curry has the skills and power to win as well.

I think it was a mixture of many factors that people dismiss too easily.

    1. Curry had over 400 bouts which is insane and he was heavily favored to bring the gold home but was denied because of the boycott.
    2. Curry was known to be very shy and very reserved and being in the spot light he appeared awkward and lets remember they were looking for a replacement for Leonard who had been very charismatic.
    3. And this ties into 2. I don't think Curry handled popularity too well hence the drugs, partying, etc.

There's only a couple of examples showing Curry having one punch power.

True but they are great displays of being able to generate power to hurt or knock someone out.
Like I said I like both boxers - I pretty much idolized Hearns so I'm very biased when it comes to Hearns.

I’m a BIG Curry fan, he’d likely make my top 10 favs list of fighters.

And you’re right about his power. Some people look at the McCrory fight and remember that left hook which, wrongly, elevates him into the “thunderous puncher” category with some observers. I’ve heard Curry being described by some as an “explosive puncher” and “serious hitter” etc. Not for me. Yes, he was a respectful puncher but I don’t think he was as powerful as Leonard, never mind Hearns.

And another thing on Curry. I don’t think he was particularly outstanding in any one area—just well-rounded and complete across the board. And talking about attributes, I don’t even think he was that quick-handed either. Again, certainly nowhere near Leonard or Hearns. Not even close.

I would favor Hearns by 7th or 8th round kayo, but it's not inconcevaible that Curry could pull this off. He would have to find a way to neutralize Tommy's jab, and Donald had strong skills, but his durability could be questioned at times.
