I don't think Mayweather vs De La Hoya was controversial tbh even though it was a split decision. I had Floyd winning it narrowly by two rounds. I was going for Oscar at the time as well.
I remember the first decision that had me up in arms as a sports fan and a boxing fan was the Floyd Patterson – Jimmy Ellis fight in 1968. The fight was for Ellis’ share of the heavyweight championship. There were no judges. The referee scored the fight nine rounds to six in favor Of Ellis. I was 11 years old and I scored the fight 9–6 for Patterson. I had been scoring fights for three years and I didn’t always agree with the judges or referee in this case. What angered me so much was that I could not find a way for Ellis to win eight rounds let alone nine. To this day, the result is considered controversial. I have not watched the fight since then. I think that might be something fun to do this week.

DLH - Mayweather is not controversial in my opinion, Mayweather clearly won the fight. Mayweather vs. Castillo 1, DLH - Mosley 2, and DLH - Sturm had controversial verdicts in my opinion. Lewis - Holyfield 1 is a large robbery, as is Hagler - Antuofermo 1. Gomez - Lockridge, Norton - Young, and Ali - Young were also controversial verdicts.
