A single punch lands. The lights go out. Why?

Power comes from several sources. Three I can think of.

1)Reach and Weight. If a fighter is swinging bigger arms with more mass around thats a bigger weapon generating more force. Can be measured like any other weapon.

2)"Hand hardness". Some fighters hands are harder then others. These fighters can be skinny and small but for whatever reason they "have power" and their hands just do more damage. Can't be measured.

3)Mechanics. Some fighters are just good at hitting fighters a certain way that makes them go to sleep. Whether that be motion or timing they have a "feel" for it.

 

Punching force , pretty much the same like the energy of a bullet , is always mass x velocity at impact .

So its a question how much mass from the arm and upper body can an athlete bring into a target and how fast is he able to acclerate thiss mass at a given distance ( from beginning of the punch to impact into the target .

Wilder is a good example : for a heavyweight relativly skinny but long hands and gifted by nature with the ability of a massive accleration of his arm .

Wilder hits not with the biggest mass but with an enormous velocity .

Its physics . Its only a question how much mass with what velocity hits the target .

Sometimes it's illusion, carefully created by fighting guys with suspect mandibles.

It's because, ultimately, power comes from God, and weakness comes from the devil. Once we understand that and accept it into ourselves, we can all be doing the KO's and never suffering them. That is how this works.

The mechanics of how the force is generated from the mass element is the factor that really is hard to pinpoint/fathom. Speed we see it, Wilder for example generated a lot of his power through the acceleration starting from a grounded base then super explosive covering quite a distance at times.

Meanwhile them mechanics around bone and ligaments structures, small variations in punching and joint angles ability to transfer the force from the feet up to the hand, Some guys will just naturally hit hard and you can see that they all are ground/anchored well, I think these types of natural punches can tend to be square on at times, Berterbiev, Maidana, Matthyse, Foreman etc It's why a boxer mover will tend to be a punchers kryptonite.

Ultimately, it comes down to the point of impact, the moment the punch lands. Angles, strength and speed are super important. In the modern era, add in hydration and lack there of as an extremely important variable which determines the concession of a knockout outcome.

The best example was Prince Naseem. He's the boxer that needs to be super publicly studied in terms of how he was able to achieve what he did when it comes to power and knockouts.

A lower weight division world champion who was extremely unorthodox, sparking them all.

 

Many factors, hand speed, weight distribution, timing.

Fighters get ko'd because they are tired happened a lot old championship 15rd fights, physically, mentally spent and the tank is empty. Still today the 12 round distance.
Fighters getting caught cold, Pat Cowdell as an example Azumah Nelson a savage uppercut 1st round and bingo. Fighters well on top switching off and lights out to fighters losing almost every round and land a hail Mary.
