It's probably Mike Tyson, still.

Boxing has lost the mainstream media, by having leading heavyweights fight every so often occasionally against other leading heavyweights.
Heavyweight is probably the key to mainstream media attention - but it's been stalled by negotiation sagas, ducking and inactivity.

Tyson/Holyfield way back then, was probably the last time boxing was all pervasive across the sports fans landscape, rather than the boxing fan's landscape. This take is a vague generalisation though ... depending on the scope of the initial question.

 

Canelo or Usyk. Shakur is now the face of American boxing. Inoue clearly the face of Japanese boxing.

 

has nothing to do with him being Japanese. Everything to do with him not speaking English (or Spanish).

 

canelo is done...usyk never was. there is no global face of boxing. just like there's no rock stars. celebrity has passed it's use by date. thank god.

 

Now that Canelo's time is over, Usyk should be the current "face of boxing".

Undefeated, heavyweight, charismatic, PFP 1 or 2 and big scalps on his resume. Not sure why it's not translating.

In a perfect world it would be Inoue, but lil guys don't get that much respect.

There is none. It should be Usyk or Inoue. But neither have crossed over to casual fans.

Boxing in a weird place rn. It’s not dead. But it’s lost its story lines.

 

None. But there's recognizable names like AJ, Ryan, Canelo still, Fury.
