Big Lucas going to the very hostile Chechneya and winning is not to be sniffed at either , there's been a lot written about Big Lucas but fair goes to him that night he showed HUGE stones.
Vic Darchinyan is a name I'd completely forgotten about. Thanks for flagging him as an Australian who shouldn't be forgotten about. I also think that's a good take, that although some of these African-Australian boxers didn't make the jump to positive win/loss ratios/higher rankings, they did provide solid comp. for other Australians to build their skills and make that jump. That should be appreciated.
An absolutely wild journey that was. You won't meet a more hostile crowd. There were 7 or 8 of us...and them
I forgot about him for ages too. Until I saw Sandmans pic on here 3 years ago almost. I also listed him a few pages ago. I made reference to a lot of our past fighters in the 90s and 2000's etc. There's more I was going to name and ask about. But I'm glad I didn't. As I also mentioned some of them haven't done good things with their life.
vic darchinyan is our most accomplished fighter ever. his win over mijares is the best win by an aussie ever too. experts predicted that vic wouldn't even be able to land a punch at all. it ended up being a complete schooling by vic and he pummelled mijares relentlessly.
Honestly the best trip I've ever been on. Armed guards wherever we went. Our team bus getting searched by soldiers every night as we trained at Kadyrov's palace. Lucas getting smashed in the guts by Kadyrov the night before the weigh in... the whole thing was off its head from go to woah. That and Lucas' Rocky like effort, it was absolutely insane. 10 year anniversary around the corner...
Vic was as good as anyone who has ever fought out of Australia. Most of the African boys did it very tough b/c there was no money behind them & they were always brought in as the opponent. The exceptions were Sakio Bika, Naoufel Ben Rabah (who were both with Jeff Fenech) & Lovemore Ndou. We've got a very good African kid in the amateur ranks in Riek Chuol who's still a teenager. Hopefully he gets a chance to show what he can do on the national team over the next few years. He hasn't been done any favours with scoring in critical fights from what I've seen but in terms of talent, he's as good as anyone we've got.
One of the best away fixture Wins ever , makes Lloyd Honeyghans win over Donny Curry a stroll , a decade already , Whoosh.
What's happening with Cherneka Johnson? Any fights coming up. Hopefully lieutenant Dan Hennessey is the ring announcer and he does his magic card throw lol. I love that guy.
Blast from the past Daniel Dawson vs Austin Trout 2014 what round did Dawson suffer a torn calf or achilles? I read it was 7 the other day but I thought it was earlier than that. Anyone remember? I thought at the time he would have won if not for the injury. But I could be wrong.
Any news on Kambosos next opponent? Him and Wilson should have fought by now. Looking back at it with shots against Loma and Hitchens it would have been to big a risk for him to fight Wilson. Lose to him and that ship would have sailed. More money obviously and titles on the line.
