As for why these guys can't hang them up money and pride is the short answer. They're not financially stable and are in need for more money and are too proud to admit that they're no longer as good as they used to be and want to keep deluding themselves thinking that they can keep fighting at their age.

Most of them need the money. Even if you are in your 40's and have a few million in the bank unless you want to live like a tight ass for the rest of your life you are going to want more money and if boxing is the only thing you know how to do that is what you are going to do.
It's easy for people to say they should've invested but that doesn't always work out unless you know what you are doing.

Sometimes it's just for the love of the sport, a love of fighting. Nostalgia too. If it's all you know and you're in your 40s, probably a bit of a midlife crisis. Boxing is my passion, it's hard to step away or forget it - it's an obsession - these guys obsess over boxing, OCD level!!

Some fighters simply can not walk away as they love the Boxing life and can’t leave it ,Roy Jones being a prime example of that,had he retired after the WBA Heavyweight win over Ruiz he imo would have been ranked a top10 HOF but he simply could not walk away from the sport despite numerous advice from different sources and he certainly didn’t need the money .
