Is it really a smart decision to do enough to just win against the cash cow? I don't think Mayweather would do that. It's dangerous since the judges may not have it for you. One judge didn't.

The truth is Mayweather just wasn't aggressive enough at that point of his career. Very risk averse.

I don’t know what actually was going through Mayweather’s head but I am sure he thought he was doing enough to win a clear decision. Oscar had lost a lot by that point in his career as shown by his subsequent fights with Forbes and Pacquiao . In my opinion, Mayweather saw that Oscar had severely declined and held back enough to make the fight competitive. When he went at Oscar to back him off, it was like target practice. Just my opinion.

Is De La Hoya overrated? I have essentially the same opinion here as I do about Canelo, which I wrote a few days ago here on the forum. Based on the comments I read on social media (and many of them are casual fans) I say yes, Oscar is overrated. For me, De La Hoya isn't an ATG but a "Great of his era."A champion, not a great champion.

How would he have fared vs Winky Wright?

A weak case could be made for a draw vs Floyd. It was hardly a beating. Many forget that DLH made some adjustments in that fight and Floyd actually had trouble landing 2nd half of fight. But, as they say, its harder to get up and train when you sleep in silk pajamas with a chef, maid, and personal assistant - youve already made it.

Floyd beat him by 2 rounds. I was going for Oscar. But he lost.

Oscar was the second best fighter of the 90s imo.. he was a Brilliant talent.. his resume doesn't tell the whole story.. a few of those losses were contentious.. he beat Mosley in the second.. outlanded him in nearly every department & he was dominating Trinidad for 8/9 rounds too.. & even well past his best prime Mayweather couldn't really solve him either .. let's not forget too that Mosley was heavily involved in BALCO.. by right Oscar should have wins over Mosley, Trinidad & a draw with Mayweather.. combine those with his other wins like Pea , Camacho, Quartey etc & thats a phenomenal resume. I don't just take boxrec as verbatim, some of us are more nuanced.

I was going for Floyd. Was unimpressed. Floyd won but couldnt give him more than 7 rounds. Floyds offense just wasn't very good.

People that want to give Floyd 8+ rounds against DLH are just fanboys. Floyd really didnt do much that fight and that was largely because his own offense was ineffective.

Then guys like Crawford, Canelo, Usyk, Inoue, and Loma are not ATGs either

Those fighters are considered to be "ATGs" by today's standards but none of them have the quality of wins that Oscar has.
    Oscar has:
    Chavez Jr
    Pernell
    Ike
    Fernando Vargas
    Hector Camacho
    Angel Gonzalez

If we include the robberies, he has Mosley and Trinidad. I think Floyd squeaked out a decision 7-5 but if you want to include that as a "robbery" be my gues.
Has Canelo, Usyk, Crawford, Inoue, or Loma faced anything even in the same realm as a Mosley, Tito, or Ike? I think not.... so if these guys are ATGs, then Oscar should be as well because I rank him higher than the fighters listed

You and I have different opinions on De La Hoya, and that's fine. Canelo isn't an ATG in my opinion.
