Bottom line is Mayweather called out PS talked a bunch of smack to get PS to even spar and then got handled its that simple.

 

Yep, very simple, so simple in fact that the sparring session did absolutely nothing for either man. Didn't change their career trajectory one bit. That's how simple it was.

 

Paul was very much on Mayweathers level when Paul was at his best that's what people forget.
The problem with PS was he had 0 self control outside of boxing to go along with a substantial drug/alcohol problem that went back to his amateur days.
He really reminds of Michael Nunn - you couldn't keep Michael away from his home town no matter what you tried and PS was the exact same way.
PS came from an incredibly difficult childhood and honestly when his original trainer passed PS was doomed.

 

PS was done the moment he started making money.
Mayweather looked over thought little of PS egged him on to spar and then got handled and now the Mayweather lovers can't handle that.

It is a shame. PS fan boys hang their hats on a 18 minute sparring match and now the whatkuddabeens come out the wood work. Like I said, even PS said it sickens him how people make a big deal about that sparring session.

 

Spence also bested Floyd in sparring

 

This is a bad take. GGG couldnt get fights, Benavidez cant get fights. Crawford couldn't get fights.

If an opponent doesnt make money, they get passed for lesser competition even if lesser pay. Its not right but its just how it goes. Spadafora also had addictions and apparently shot his wife and went to prison for years.

Its entirely possible prime Spadafora beats prime Floyd. Not probable, but possible. Keep in mind Floyd had a brutal fight versus Emmanuel Augustus...a guy who had like 20 losses. And the large majority of boxing fans recognize that JLC beat Floyd in their first fight. JLC was never a better fighter than Floyd and Spadafora probably couldnt have been either, but guys lose to lesser opponents that have their number all the time. Just part of boxing and part of life.

 

But are willing to say PS was better than Floyd based on an 18 minute sparring session? Like I said, it's difficult to say just from the video.

 

From what little we know, Spadafora got best of Floyd when they matched. We dont know if they sparred more than once. We dont know the context of their one known spar. We do know lesser fighters can get the best of anybody, including Floyd. Beating someone head to head doesnt automatically make them better. AJ beat Wlad but very few people rate AJ above Wlad or Teo above Loma or Rahman above Lewis, etc.

So, yes, its plausible that Spadafora beats Floyd. After all it was some little Irish white kid that fractured Floyd's ribs in sparring (I believe before JMM). That doesnt make them better fighters though.

 

He was that good being an alcoholic probably would have been a top guy if he had the discipline and right coaching. I don’t think he would’ve beaten the elites but probably would be a level below.

 

I suggest you watch how each of them performed against Manfredy and Sosa. Spadafora was closer to Stevie’s level.

 

There was nothing wrong with his coaching.

 

Sparring and a real boxing fight are totally different.
