Sorry I should have expanded my answer. His resume is insane for the number of great fighters he fought, beat and lost to in the end.

Last couple of ko losses came at the very end of his career. No shame in having ko losses to Walcott, Marciano etc when in reality Charles was originally a middleweight. I don't think he had a weak chin. Just fought exceptionally good and naturally bigger fighters. He was also part of Murderers Row which was an insane group of of quality fighters and he beat all of them at one point.

    Cops do not defend criminals

    Firemen do not defend arsonists

    Soldiers do not defend deserters

Unless they themselves are also criminals, arsonists, and deserters

So why do iron-jawed fans or ones with above average punch resistance defend glass jawed 'fighters' and ones with below average punch resistance?

The answer is they don't. The only fans who defend glass jaws are ones who cannot take a pop on the whiskers themselves

If you get knocked out or knocked down or god forbid made to do a chicken dance that's not a good thing or something to be celebrated. That's a stain on you, your legacy, your DNA, your family, your city, region, your country, your countrymen and your species. But getting slept out cold on your face or back multiple times??

I would hope that being involved in this sport as a competitor, trainer, & official for over 35+ years I would know something about chins and punch resistance. At least enough to explain it without dwelling on my emotions if someone disagrees with an assessment.

To tell you the truth, I forgot about that fight. I was still competing at that time. All I remember is that he toyed with Valle most of the fight.

Good job, you located a moment he got a flash knock down... I'm proud of you little lady. You do know that fighters get punched all the time and the right timing can effect any fighter. Without going back to find the fight, I'm guessing Valle didn't just pop him and he dropped, which would be evidence of a weak chin. It was most likely, given RJJ's style at the time, during one of his show boating punching combos in which he often had his hands down.

Stop acting like a damn school girl and resulting to name calling because someone disagrees with your statement/opinions. Pointing out that your statement is silly is due to the fact it has ZERO logic shouldn't offend you so much being that I'm a 'nobody' to you and don't exist in your life beyond this conversation.... Because as I said, that was over 2 decades and 50 fights and you was able to squeeze out one time RJJ was dropped in a fight that he won, so surely, he wasn't showcasing a weak chin only being dropped one time in 50 fights. If that's the case, Floyd had a weak chin as well. So did Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, George Foreman, Oscar De La Hoya, Tommy Hearns, etc...... all fighters who were hurt and/or dropped at least once before their 50th fight.

Because by your logic, Mutumbo wasn't a great defender as he got dunked on a few times during his career. Bo Jackson wasn't a great running back because he got tackled time and time again before crossing the goal line. Tom Brady was a horrible passer since he's threw interceptions a few times during his career.

I don't know how to make it any more elementary for you. So labeling a hall of fame fighter who WASN'T KNOWN for having a weak chin as GLASS JAW sounds silly especially without context.

How about we put on our big boy pants and try explaining why it is that you feel Roy's chin is weak vs all other fighters who have receive even more evidence of punishment. Or is it too much to ask for you to act like an adult when speaking to adults. Since I apparently know nothing about punch resistance and such......how about you educate me...... While I wait on that, I'll go check out that fight you pointed out just to see why you would suggest he has a 'glass jaw'.......

As a fan how do I find out if I have a glass jaw? I tried headbutting my monitor and now it is broken; is that a good thing?

the reason he didnt get hurt is because he was relaxed and rolled with punches and rarely got hit on the chin

Glad to see that china chinned fraud Wilder is making a good showing in the poll. It shows people recognize a fragile mandible when it gets shattered by a feathfist like Fury!!

Del valle knocked down Virgil Hill too, so he could punch a bit.

You can't have Wilder on this list and not have AJ and Lennox.

AJ was stopped by one of the lighter hitting HW's in Ruiz and destroyed by Dubious who is a puncher but look how much Croatian took.
He was then protected by management for a long time to hide the vulnerability.
Don't forget Price stretchered him in sparring and Price is a big hitter but how many others have you heard been done like that by him in training? It's unlikely Price was going 100%, as he's pretty mild mannered and I doubt he's trying to bomb everyone out in sparring.

Lennox has an even worse chin and was one-punched twice.

For their respective sizes (huge in their eras), both AJ and Lennox have terrible chins. These are SHW's.

And I would argue their chins are hardly any better than Khan's. Khan actually weathered a lot of punishment from Maidana and that mexican with the helmet haircut.

Manny Pacquiao is worth a mention. He was pole-axed by an ancient Marquez who retired immediately afterwards. Definitely packing some Glass in his Mandible.

Great to see Chin Talk is still thriving here on ESB, or whatever this place is called these days.

How can any glass chin be picked over Amir Khan's chin? The dude was basically packing powdered glass held together by dried sugar water.
