Aggressive fighters with the most awkward brawling style

Maidana deserves a shout. Even Floyd didn't see a lot of those punches coming.

 

Buster Drayton comes to mind.

 

Bazooka is a perfect choice to lead off this thread.

To him, I would add:

Merqui Sosa: Even his knock-kneed stance was awkward and you never knew where he was coming from. He’d look for all intents and purposes to be ready to sling a wild overhand right and somehow end up throwing a short left hook … things like that. And every bit a brawler.

Donovan Ruddock: Always imposing and aggressive (at least after his early days), everything Razor did was centered around that hybrid left hook/uppercut. Never seen anyone so reliant on such an unusual punch.

Marcos Maidana: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy seem to change his mind mid-punch the way MM did. Start to throw a jab and just switch it to a hook mid-path, or step over with a right lead so it becomes a right jab. Plus his odd punching axis when he really let go with volleys, like an overhand hook from the lead hand. Guy was impossible to really figure out because even he probably didn’t know what he was going to do until he’d already done it.

 

Yes El Venado have a very close style with Vaquero Navarrete.

Yeah, I mentioned Maidana above. Great description. He could also punch around the guard as good as anyone.

Sosa is a great call.

 

Navarrete fits every description that has been given of Harry Greb minus the speed and you could say smarts.

 

Sung-Kil Moon warrants mention. Profoundly awkward fighter who was constantly off-balance and yet managed to use this to load up his offence better and misdirect opponents as to what he's doing. Joy to watch and a man made out of concrete.

Flo, when I saw the subject matter i came on here to say Bazooka Limon and then saw you nailed it first time out of the box. So then I thought of the bantamweight clone of Bazooka. That being Victor Rabanales, and saw you nailed that too. So then I thought of that factory down in Buenos Aires that makes burly, brawling, clubbing punchers and thought of Jorge Castro and Oscar Bonavena. I see Roldan and Maidana have been mentioned already. I find it amazing how they churn out that style of fighter.
