Why do some people on here downplay Charles, Moore and Walcott

There was still a period of about a year when Valdes was no1,and Marciano could have fought Valdes, but didn't.

 

My impression wasn't that Nino Valdes was a super special opponent Marciano needed to fight so much as there was a group of guys Marciano didn't fight who as a group had a much better chance of beating Marciano then the guys he ended up fighting.

 

Moore's Mother said he was 3 years older than he claimed

Valdes was no1 at the end of 53 and 54.

 

Moore fought Marciano in 55.
He fought Lytell in 47 ,and Lytell was 160lbs.
He fought Williams in 48, and Williams was164lbs.
He fought Morrow in 48 and was kod in1 rd and beat Morrow in49 was172 lbs.
He fought Smith in44.48 and 51.Smith was173lbs.
He fought Slade in 52 , Slade was175lbs
He fought Satterfield in 49 and Satterfield was 175lbs
He beat Dunlap in 52,3 years before the Marciano fight.
So basically all these results are irrelevant,because .
1.They were middleweights and light heavies.
2.They happened several years earlier.

 

The 50s were a "depth era" not an era with high end ATGs. Valdes might have been number 1 but that doesn't change anything.

The top 10s for this era were wonky because you could justify so many fighters inclusion high.

 

He was even crowned Nevada State World Heavyweight Champion, lol.

 

Goodness me, not a rumour I thought I'd ever conceive of.

 

Has nothing to do with Marciano. One possible explanation is you had WW 2 and the Korean War also prosperity in our country. So many young prospects were drafted which stunted or ruined their potential. Then they got out of the service and instead of getting slammed in the head they had many opportunities in other lines of work. So who was left the guys who were already established in early 40s. That being the older guys who didn’t have a chance to fight for the title before the war because of the soft color line in boxing. Hence you have Marciano ending up a 38 year old Walcott 34 year old Charles and 42 year old Moore. Moore and Charles were light heavyweights. Also the one champ Louis way past prime at 37.
