London as we know was a mediocre fighter but would have whipped Cockell. Moore deserved the shot as has been said he beat all the heavyweight contenders he faced. That might be the clearest explanation of how weak the division was if Moore was the best of the lot and Patterson totally dominated and outclassed him doesn’t say a lot for the competition level. This was the same Patterson that no one lauds as being great and he was not even at his prime when he KOd Archie in 5.

According to box-rec the fight with Charles was in Aug 53, so it was in fact 1 year 9 months until Moore beat him in 55, I know you like posters to get their dates and facts correct.

By the RIng Magazine, which doesn't count. It has nothing to do with the rating that Marciano has to work with.
Valdes was #1 contender by October of '54 By THE ACTUAL RATINGS. He was defeated by Moore in May of '55. Bucceroni became #1 when Valdez defeated Charles until Charles got it back, because of the hole Valdes was in from the four fight losing streak.

That is reality. It is always going to the be the reality of the siutation.

You don't think 1 year and 9 months is enough time for a champion to take on his no 1contender?
One who hasn't a lost fight in the time line I gave?
Please don't give me that,"stay safe buddy , talk soon jive" ,you don't like me, and that's perfectly fine, but lets just dispense with the phoney bonhomie.

You want to discount the Ring ratings ?Which ones would you say were more credible in the 1950's? After May53 Valdes went on an eleven fight winning streak ,beating 3 Ring ranked contenders during that period ,do you also want to discount that?

They have nothing to do with who Marciano was actually obligated to fight. Period.

Ring magazine ratings have always been the ones most respected because unlike boxing associations ratings there was no politics involved were in inflating fighters rating because they were getting their palms greased. So Ring magazine would be your best meter of where a fighter belonged to be rated.
Whether he was required or not Weill choose not to even though he was very highly ranked for a long period of time. Rocky fought others not ranked #1 but not Valdez though number 1 by Ring for over a year.
Don’t like the Ring ratings look at this I found online was not about Ring ratings:

For what it's worth, I agree with you that a champ should defend against his no 1 contender with in 1 year and 9 months, problem being the timeline you gave was incorrect, and I didnt give you the " stay safe etc, so unclear as to what you are talking about, and I will sign off my posts the same as I always do, whether you like it or not.

True. There were some weak opponents on that record. But that’s not all he fought. Overall I think it was a very good record and resume but that’s just my opinion. 49-0 is extremely hard to reach even if all you’re facing is absolute garbage. Marciano beat the best in the world at that time even if many believe it was a weak era.

Look you go against tough competition enough and eventually someone will beat you. Also styles have a lot to do with it. If you take on styles that don’t favor you and tough competition eventually your going to have tough outings. Rocky was protected and kept away from the bad matchups. Let’s avoid Valdez and fight Cockell etc..

Also, realize that out of a 49 fight career only a dozen were against live bodies.

Mac, was Ezzard Charles not the #1 Ring rated contender when Charles faced him both times?

49 and oh is a big accomplishment especially for a 5 10 185 pound guy with a 68 inch reach. Also a guy who took up boxing late in life compared to most champions. But the point people are trying to make is that the competition wasn’t as tough as any other more recent era starting with the late fifties.

Sign off to others how you wish, just don't give me that stuff because we both know you don't like me,lol

BTW I'm happy for your correction,I was just saying, for those who use Moore's wins over Valdes as an excuse for Marciano not fighting Nino, that the excuse is BS.
