What Fighters Lose by Signing With Zuffa Boxing: Contractual Freedom (the biggest loss by far) Zuffa is using a UFC‑style contract structure. That means in traditional boxing, a star can: fight as a free agent negotiate with multiple promoters shop around for the highest purse leverage networks against each other Zuffa removes that leverage. Control Over Opponents In boxing, A‑side fighters often hand‑pick opponents. In Zuffa’s league model: matchmaking is centralized fighters don’t get to choose the promotion decides who fights whom and when Loss of “Event-by-Event” Mega Purses Traditional boxing allows stars to negotiate: back‑end PPV points co‑promoter status eight‑figure one‑off deals Saudi “appearance fee” style paydays Less Control Over Branding & Promotion Boxers normally control: their ring walk their sponsors their personal brand their media schedule Zuffa’s UFC‑style system means: unified branding centralized media restrictions on outside sponsors the promotion controls the narrative You become part of the machine — not the architect of your own brand. Zuffa is creating its own titles which means: No WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO belts No mandatory challengers No unification fights unless Zuffa negotiates them Less Negotiation Power Long-Term Once you’re locked in: Zuffa controls your schedule Zuffa controls your ranking Zuffa controls your title opportunities Zuffa controls your purse structure You lose the ability to “sit out” to force a promoter’s hand — a classic boxing tactic. Zuffa fighters are expected to: show up fight regularly not negotiate publicly not hold out not cherry-pick If you push back, the promotion has all the leverage. Why become an employee of Dana White?
So as you get to fight the best opponents out there and not just the ones who see it as 'good for business' to fight you?
I love the UFc but Whites model will not work in boxing. also Dana could not get Jones to fight Aspinall so I am not sure why he is needed we already have an undisputed heavy and light heavyweight champ without Dana White. Why bring him into boxing?
Because most of the things you give up don’t mean much to the majority of boxers. UFC has been very good for MMA and MMA fighters in general. The top top lose.
Tell that to the retired UFc guys who lots a boat load of money due to sponsorships. The UFC would not even let guys wear their sponsorship clothing. How ridiculous and unjust is that?
Like having 4 belts and the world effectively being cut into 4 pieces do you? I don't. If the long-term outcome of Zuffa's foray into boxing is less 4 organizations - preferably only one - and the best fighting the best on a regular basis, I'm all for it.
But White can’t even make the best fight the best in the UFC - see Jones vs Aspinall. He favours some guys over others, denies good fighters title shots etc the long term effect of Zuffa boxing will be less money and hence less talent as fewer guys will be incentivized to take up boxing.
The UFC is light years ahead of boxing in terms of the best fighting the best. There is absolutely no comparison.
Absolutely! I personally think that Dana and Turki together are going to wipe the floor with all these two bob hustlers in boxing. Turkish has played these guys like the greedy fools they are.
Hearn and Warren were all smiles and swinging hands with Turki when they smelt his money. But a blind man could see how it was going to end, and now that the inevitable has happened, they are crying foul.
I would suggest that Zuffa will use a UFC style model with contracts and payments for boxers fighting for Zuffa's internal awards like Zuffa Belts; and one closer to a conventional style as used by other promoters for elite level fighters. There is competition in boxing which should keep Zuffa a little in check, crossing all fingers.
ChatGPT/AI thread. Besides the use of slop by OP, Dana White having a hand in boxing is just dog****. Who is going to fight for peanuts like he provides?
Well l'm not going to type all their names in, but Jai Opetaia plus about another 100 more, and that's only after a couple of months. That number will grow as the bigger names come out of contract and can be signed by Zuffa.
Curious to know how much Conor Benn and Opetaia will actually making with Zuffa. Surely it must have been good money to prise them away, especially compared with a good UFC fighter. Although Opetaia as @like a boss pointed out - probably just signed out of frustration. Zuffa may be forced to adapt as boxing is a different animal to UFC.
