IBF strips Jai Opetaia of the cruiserweight world championship ahead Zuffa world title bout

Zuffa is the corporate name of the UFC.

Their law they are lobbying for refers to them as the "UBO" Unified boxing organization.

 

Zuffa can suck a fat one. Nobody should be falling for this obvious trap to turn it into the UFC where Dana's ego runs the show.

Good on the IBF for throwing down the gauntlet.

I'm watching, but I generally don't like these "preordained" shows ... where everything is set up for one guy to win.

I have nothing against Jai. But it would be pretty funny if Brandon Glanton scored an upset and then refused to accept the Zuffa belt in the ring.

Are you asking why boxing needs official governing bodies? Like every other sport has?

it’s licenced boxing, unlicensed boxing doesn’t have them. it may suit you more.

Well the Ring have already aligned themselves with Zuffa (no surprises there given the new ownership):

"Opetaia, 30, defended his Ring cruiserweight title and won the first Zuffa Boxing belt awarded in any division."

What are the orgs going to do if Turki and Dana manage to court all the Ring champions

 

lt would be a pretty logical strategy.

 

I can see it happening too. Throw money at the champions, then start fazing out guys not aligned with Zuffa from the ratings. Then if anyone tries to take the belt, they can strip based on not defending within their rankings. Basically becoming a defacto org themselves.

that would be a great fight, hope it happens. if david can handle opetaias power he can beat him. david is more skilled, but he hasnt been hit by a guy naturally this big. i will wait to see how he looks against zurdo before i put my money on one of them.

 

Dana flat out said they weren't going to recognize any of the alphabet belts. Now he's mad he couldn't use the IBF to legitimize his Zuffa belt. Make it make sense. I don't blame the IBF for not letting themselves get used and tossed aside by Zuffa.

 

Sanctioning bodies need to go. Full stop.
