Boxing politics: Opetaia in the position because of duckers

Absolutely, I heard Jai agreed to a 30/70 split to fight CBS in a unification, and he still turned it down. Signing with Zuffa is a poor move, though. The IBF was always going to take umbrage with that. There are few certainties in boxing, but Jai not becoming undisputed is one of them. He absolutely should be, and he would beat everyone at cruiserweight pretty easily. The sport is a joke a lot of the time, but leaving Matchroom for Zuffa is counterproductive if you want to be undisputed. Jai is not entirely blameless here.

He was talking about a change from Matchroom because that's where he was at the time.

Nobody was going to deliver Opetaia the unification fights for one very good reason, the guys with the other belts wouldn't fight him.

 

Jai said the main reason he signed with Zuffa was to become undisputed, but Zuffa wanted to do its own thing outside the traditional framework of the governing bodies; they made no secret of that. It is directly opposed to the traditional governing bodies, so I don't see how he and his team have jumped to the conclusion that Zuffa has a better model in place that will allow him to become undisputed. The whole thing doesn't make sense. But yeah, regardless of who he was with he would be avoided like the plague, it's a sad indictment of the politics that exist.

Yeah, I agree, but I don't understand how moving from a globally known and established boxing promoter like Hearn to someone like White, who will leave the sport as soon as Turki does, benefits Jai in the slightest. If any of them is less likely to deliver undisputed, then it is Zuffa.

 

Opetaia was clearly frustrated that nobody else could get him the unification fights. Matchroom couldn't.

Those manufactured weight bullies are some of the biggest ducks in boxing. That fight is perfect example of corrupt boxing politics and favoritism. Opetaia has been the man for years now and he's been disgracefully ducked by the other belt holders while these weight bully cowards jump up to take advantage of the weak and/or washed up champions that have been ducking Opetaia. Now they're fighting each other and of course the casuals are lapping it up.

Mora the Moron went on to say Benavidez and Zurdo would beat him Yep Benavidez v Zurdo is a bogus fight that only a casual would get up for.

 

There are ducking warriors everywhere.
But you also need to hear the other side to see what they were truly offered behind the scenes.
And if everyone was truly ducking him, then why not just go up to HW since there's so much talk of it.
Nobody cares about cruiser, it's pretty obvious.
Go to HW where nobody will duck you.

Yes and no. The $7.7 billion is for the UFC, Zuffa boxing has its own budget which is reportedly about $100 million. Sounds like peanuts, but 100 mil is a lot for a single boxing promoter. Its more than SHO had for its entire boxing platform.

 

Benavidez wants the smoke, Jai said he isn't willing to wait until May so will no doubt give us another bum.
