What boxers lose by signing with Zuffa Boxing

Boxing sets a very low bar.

 

The current system sucks. 4 major belts. People don’t know who is the champion. Fighter refusing to fight each other cause of stupid ego ( Boots and Ortiz for recent example). Org where you get title fight for who you know and not what you’ve done.

Is Zuffa worst than what we have? I don’t see it.

 

Jon Jones is a glaring example that disproves that. If Dana doesn't like you, you don't have a career. Yes the orgs have their flaws, but monopolizing the sport isn't an answer either.

Do we really want boxers having to kiss Dana/Saudi ass every fight? It's bad enough with "Riadh season"

 

I have no respect nor sympathy for that repeat drug offender Jones.

Could name 100s of boxers who have paved their way along the least risk route to trinkets and belts. To compare that to the UFC is absolutely laughable.

 

Yet Dana was still happy to let Jones chase meaningless fights and avoid his mandatory. UFC fighters are also carefully managed based on popularity. The UFC is getting closer and closer to WWE where you have to be a "star" to really make a good career out of it like McGregor or Jones.

The orgs aren't perfect and there are padded champions, but I just don't see how letting Turki and Dana take over fixes anything.

Afterall, we're getting an absolute farce of a title defense from Usyk because Turki is willing to stump up the cash.

How many do you think are taking the easy route in boxing? Too many to even count. That's how many.

 

It's not really a fair comparison because there's far more boxers than UFC fighters, and boxing has been around far longer.

I also don't really follow the UFC, so my info is coming second hand as well, but my understanding is that UFC fighters are treated rather poorly by both fans and management. I don't want to see boxing copy that model especially with an egomaniac like Dana White running the show. The way he's treated Tom Aspinal has been appalling.

And sure, I've only used Jon Jones as an example. But he's a drug cheat, disgraceful example of a human being yet Dana idolized him and allowed him to keep on going.

It's not a fair comparison because the UFC usually pits the best against the best and boxing rarely pits the best against the best.

It's not an opinion. It's a fact.

 

UFC can only match the best of its stable, not of any sport.

Fighters who Dana like get a push more than ones he doesn’t, or they’re just not allowed to fight on his shows anymore….so are they considered “not the best” any more coz Dana fell out with them.

don’t you find it cringy that even the “critics” asking him questions are not critical of him and are clearly just promoting him/his business?

I found that cringy and surprised ufc fans don’t see this.

one even congratulated him on the success of zuffa to have “already crowned a champion just 4 shows in, what an achievement”

I'm curious to see what the ratings are. Their YouTube channel has like 34K followers and videos are routinely viewed by about 1,000 people sometimes less.

LIV Golf, the other Saudi backed disruption of another individual sport might be ending after 5 years. Golf is a pretty popular sport and gets way more mainstream attention here and a new league could not survive. Now Golf does have a centralized league in the PGA which is something boxing does not have.

I am curious to see what the long term play is and how long the Saudi's will just dump money on boxing

I have mixed feelings on Zuffa Boxing. I like boxing and feel in many ways the sport is doing well though it has never really recovered in the US. I think plenty of big fights have been getting made as of late. I just don't know how sustainable the different business models are for long term success. I also like the UFC though I acknowledge its problems.

I don't think Zuffa Boxing will kill the sanctioning bodies or take over the sport. I feel at most it might just be a side show league and have some interesting fights. I like the match making as a ESPN FNF type of production so far and the fights have been good, at least the ones I watched. I don't really care about ring walks and trunks etc. I just want good matched fights with good officiating and judging. I want the best to face each other and contenders and prospects to be managed in interesting fights.

I am very suspicious of the Ali Act stuff as well
