So, Janibek used drugs for a stroke? A stroke that was serious enough to be prescribed medication, but not severe enough to keep him from boxing and getting hit in the head? And you believe that.

 

Janibek having a mini-stroke is news to me, but in light of that this suspension seems even more farcical. An indication for Meldonium is literally as a cardioprotective agent after an event such as a heart attack or stroke; add to that, as you rightly say, Meldonium doesn't really have a performance enhancing effect, and the whole thing stinks. Compare and contrast to Conor Benn, who got off scot-free after taking a known PED for which the only legitimate indication is for fertility issues in Women.

 

So, clarify something. Would trace amounts be lower if found or tested at a later date? For example, if I juiced last week and got tested today, would the levels be higher than if I was tested a month from now.

Having looked it up; Janibek suffered a mini-stroke on May 7th, and was prescribed Ripronat (Meldonium); Janibek and his team were unaware that Ripronat was a prohibited substance (due to the brand name being different from the generic name), and so they did not seek a TUE. According to this:

After a short period of administration (six days), Meldonium is detectable in urine for up to 117 days; in this case it is unclear for how long Janibek was prescribed Meldonium, but if it is longer than six days (which is likely), then the detection prior to the fight with Lara fits in with the timeframe presented. The Kazakh boxing board investigated the matter and verified Janibek's medical condition, and concluded he broke the rules but inadvertently so.

There is no evidence that this is the case, and if it was it wouldn't matter; a stroke is a stroke at the end of the day.
