Hello gents ! There is a current discussion in several threads about "ducking" fights . The term is of course speculative since no boxer will go out and say "i ducked" . For me a duck is basicly easy to define : Intentionally avoiding an entitled contender who is potentially competitive What are your opinions and definitions what a "duck" is and what not ? Hope for a good discussion ! Best regards
Intentionally choosing a weaker opponent to avoid the risk of losing to a more dangerous opponent, despite there being significant demand for the boxer to face the more dangerous opponent.
Generally this. Avoiding an opponent who appears better/more dangerous especially when said opponent would offer a higher payday. That would mean a fighter would take a pay cut to fight lesser foes.
I think if one is "weaker" but still of quality and does bring more money, it's OK. So long as the avoidance of the better fighter doesn't get prolonged.
For me the best historical example to use is Harry Wills being ducked by Dempsey. Where the fighter clearly is showing an aversion to a specific matchup and is trying to find a way to avoid it. With the rise of the "0" the term duck is now used for more general behavior.
"I don't want to fight him because the money ain't right" "I don't want to fight him because his style is boring" "I don't want to fight him because the fans wouldn't like the fight" None of these are legitimate excuses for ducking smoke.............
No one has said that Elle. Why do you feed in to this type of pointless rhetoric? You aren't making any legitimate points with this type of post.
You’re right lance, the Usyk hate hasn’t gotten out of had at all. That’s why we have people crying every day about him not fighting a fat mediocre Turk whose best win is a 45 year old Chinese guy who lost to Hrgovic and Jerry Forrest.
He didn't lose to Forrest And use context too He became severely ill and was lucky to finish the fight If you've seen the fight you'll know Forrest was ready to be knocked out at any given moment Credit to him for coming back but lets not pretend he didn't have a slice of luck
