Agree with this. I also reckon Roy had more balls and challenged himself more than Floyd ever did.

 

Floyd is greater. Roy was more physically gifted.

Floyd is definitely greater overall, but judging what Roy did to Toney and what Floyd did to Corrales, I don't really know who was better at best.

 

PBF and it’s not close. Mayweather took fights that Jones wouldn’t have. Jones was too cautious coddled and reluctant to take risks.

 

Roy beats any version of Floyd. Floyd has an elite consistency where he's among the best through all phases of his career (135-147). However, Floyd was also aware that his PEAK capability might not have been as high as others ceilings. Thats why the Winky Wright fight never happened, why the Manny fight didnt happen until years later or why the Cotto fight happened years late, thats why the Lara fight never happened or the Sergio fight or the Tszyu fight, etc.

Floyd still has an excellent resume but he somehow managed to miss every HOF opponent's prime.

Contrary to that was RJJ. He had a mountain of a career where, when at the top, appeared as unbeatable as one could. Blemishing that was his failed PED test/usage, but for a period of a few years Roy was clearly unstoppable. That version of Roy stops any version of Floyd. However, Roy's career also descended DOWN the mountain in the same way it ascended. His fall from grace was as disastrous as his rise was glorious. But Roy had several wins over prime ATG opponents and thats why some people rate him over Floyd P4P...depending if rankings are based on entire career or PEAK performance.

 

At their best, Roy simply was just better than Floyd. When both were p4p top 5 in the early 00's nobody ever thought Floyd was better than Roy. Roy's problem was that he got knocked out, suffered a concussion and never recovered. A 35/36 year old Floyd would of got knocked out the same way if he had faced a southpaw with the caliber of Tarver. Errol Spence(southpaw), who wasn't even a professional at the time reportedly beat the dog **** out of Mayweather in sparring and gave the 35 year old Mayweather a black eye. I'd dread to think what that version of Tarver does to a 175 pound version of Mayweather.

 

Two of the best to ever do it but am taking Roy. If Roy did not get disqualified again Montell griffin and retired after the first Tarver fight he would of been 50-0 too. A few fighters on a great night could possibly beat Floyd. I don't see anyone being competitive against a prime Roy
Jones also had one punch knock out power which Floyd did not

 

Mayweather was the better boxer. Jones, in his prime, was the superior fighter.

Roy Jones, 1994 - 2004, is the best boxer I've ever seen. As another poster pointed out above, Floyd and Roy were both in the same p4p era from approx '98 - '04, a time when Jones was number one, there was a huge gap, then there was everyone else, Mayweather included.
However, it's not quite as straightforward as that. While Roy had the more breathtaking skills and - I would argue - a more unbeatable aura at his peak, I think Floyd's career was probably, ultimately better, than Jones's due to his inability to walk away (he didn't carry on one or two fights too many, but two DECADES).

 

Roy in the 1990s was a more complete, better all-round boxer than Mayweather ever was.

Mayweather had excellent defensive skills, but he was usually afraid to go on the offensive. He had only one KO (from a sucker punch) in his last 10 fights.
