Leonard's career has always been about the weight of his wins rather than the quantity of them. Even though Leonard was a 5 division champion, he didn't have any long reigns. He would have at most 2-3 title defenses and dropped the title. Whether that be because he vacated or lost. Plus, there were less world titles for most of Leonard's career than Roy's.

Roy gets SRL in activity, but it stope there. SRL has the far superior resume in taking big fights and better competition.
Jones dodged a lot of big fights. Both were the draw BUT SRL had many more big fights.

Having a detached Retina tends to limit fighters activity. It happened at the peak of his powers.

As great as he was he may have gone on to be even better.

Both were great, and I feel like they're not getting the recognition they deserve these days, especially Roy, who had a rough end to his career. I think Jones had even greater potential and was even more impressive in his prime, but CV vs. CV... it's hard to top Hagler, Hearns, and Duran in a single fight. On the other hand, not all of those victories were decisive, and perhaps only Hearns was truly in his prime when he fought SRL. Still, Leonard is pretty close.

People will say SRL and it's probably the right answer but if RJJ had retired after beating Ruiz this would be alot closer than people believe.

SRL has the big single wins over Hearns, Hagler, Benitez, Duran, which is probably a bit too much quality to overcome.

But RJJ had a pretty big edge in world title wins its something like 23 to 10 in favour of RJJ.

And like I said if RJJ had retired after Ruiz with the domination he had barely losing a round in over a decade winning 23 world title fights then this would be much more of a debate.

And remember whilst SRL does have bigger fights some of them were controversial Hagler, Hearns 2.

RJJ did beat his fellow great fighters very convincingly Toney, Hopkins, and you could add Hill to that list aswell who is considered a lower tier great.

Quality of top tier opposition, it’s not even close. SRL has the far greater resumé.

That’s why he’s comfortably top 20 in most good p4p lists and Roy isn’t.

It would be in terms of his record being 48-1 and having that aura of invincibility. That would help balance out the quality of SRL’s wins a bit. Leonard would still be more proven at the very highest level, though.

Leonard should definitely rank higher for just resume. Jones has more guys, but in total, they just don't add up to Duran, Hearns, Hagler & Benitez.

Comes down to quality vs quantity. Leonard had the quality Jones the quantity so depends on what you value. Since most people here value quality more they'll have Leonard higher but you can definitely make an argument for Jones if you really want to.

I have to agree with the quality argument in favor of Leonard. Jones was awesome though and had a little more depth. Both were great fighters but I hold Leonard in higher regard.

    Easy to answer.

Ray fought the better overall opponents, but Roy’s resume is considerably deeper.

He has far more world level wins.

Also, Harding and Hall were world level fighters, and then you have guys like Malinga missing.

The 2 best fighters I ever saw pound for pound. I never saw much of Ray Robinson as a welterweight some say he was greatest ever.
Hard to say who was better P4P between Roy and Ray L. I ll say it’s a pick em.
Head to head Leonard would be at a disadvantage if he had to move up in weight to fight Jones. If they fight as middleweights Roy wins.
