Who Hit Harder Deontay Wilder, Earnie Shavers or Wladimir Klitschko?

Wilder bc there’s no way he would’ve gone that far without it.

 

Zhang might be the right choice.....amazing power imo

 

For me on the single shot Shavers.

 

Probably Wlad. More weight, technical efficiency and explosiveness behind his punches.

 

Historically, we gotta say Shavers, but looking at how hard Wlad hit and how much bigger he was than Earnie, it may be him.

 

Yep! I’ve always thought Zhang’s power was underrated. That right hook he dropped Joyce with was an absolute Hydrogen bomb.

But for me… Wlad is #1. He showed it off more in his early career. Watch the Mercer fight. Blasts Ray back about 6 feet with a right cross

Wilder's right hand with full venom is likely harder than anyone in the history of the sport.

 

Who did shavers or Wlad ko?

 

The two major problems with this are:
1) He didn't knock out anyone with a proven A1 chin to really prove that power.
2) He fought primarily quite poor opponents - he didn't have as hard a time throwing full bore, nor did he usually have to be as careful about overcommitting, as he would've if he'd been fighting contenders.

On a punching machine, would he show a stronger full force punch than others in his own era?
Would Zhang, Dubois, Joshua, even Whyte or Pov have potentially hit the machine harder? Quite possibly.

Sure, he hurt Fury when he was unfit and rusty, and again when he was ill prepared and distracted... And he hurt him... And that's not nothing.
Then again, Ngannou put him on his ass when he wasn't properly prepared and wasn't taking it seriously.
And Usyk damn nearly stopped him when he was 100% fit and motivated - the only time Wilder fought anything like that Fury, he couldn't lay a glove on him.


There's no question Wilder hit very, very hard... That's undeniable.

The real questions are quite how hard, how you justify that ranking given his opponents, and whether it's meaningful to put him in this kind of conversation at all.

I think it's genuinely an open question if he was the biggest puncher of his era - when it comes to all time and/or comparison with historically huge punchers, he's going to have to take a number, for me.
He had more than enough opportunity to prove it properly - as a beltholder who could make whatever fights he wanted, he had the option of fighting some granite guys, and he had the option of fighting some definite contenders, and he wasted years not really proving it was definitely real.

 

Exactly. Wilder is great at knocking out tomato cans and carefully selected fringe contenders with fragile mandible, but against prime HWs of a high level, he struggled. He is nowhere near the hardest puncher of time. Pretty much anybody could starch the stiffs his record is littered with.

 

Which “prime HWs of a high level” did Wlad and shavers ko?

 

A fighter that can hurt a real opponent is the criteria. Wilder did hit Fury a few times, but Fury hits himself lol. Aside from Fury, Wilder has zero relevant KDs or stoppages
