lol. Vitali was in the prime of his career. 7 years pro. 33 fights.
In peak physical condition.
#1 contender to Lewis
Spent years preparing himself for that fight.
10-0 Vitali could easily demolish the fat blubber Kirk Johnson.

Meanwhile Lewis had one foot out the door , and turned up unmotivated and out of shape.

Only one man was prime and it wasn't Lewis.
Pre-sugar Hill Tyson Fury only had 24 fights and when he clowned W.
Buster had only 2 more fights than Vitali when he beat Tyson.
Vitali is the only guy in HW history to fail a passing of the torch fight against the aging champ ready for the taking.
Frank Bruno performed better than V against a prime version of Lewis.
That obviously means prime Lewis beats Vitali 9 times out of 10. 50-50 lol

Dino’s delusions aside, no, Lewis isn’t winning a rematch. Everything goes against him here.

 

That's called having a different opinion. That's what I mean by Lewis fanboy hysteria.
What do you mean by negative? For almost 30 years, I've had Lewis as the 10th-12th best heavyweight ever. A great achievement; when he finished his career, that's more or less how he was classified, and no one called it hate.

I don't think even Dino is actually picking Lewis to win a rematch. Lewis showed the heart of a champion to turn the first fight round, and let's be honest, also got a little lucky with opening up such a gruesome cut. I don't think an even older Lewis would have managed the same trick twice. If you look at him sitting in his corner after the TKO, Lewis was exhausted.

Lewis could have had the rematch, Vitali was practically begging for it, and instead Lennox opted to retire. It's clear to me that even Lewis did not fancy his chances at that stage.

Now, picking a prime Lewis to win is another argument and a distinct possibility.

 

With a better referee who would stop Lennox from head butting and otherwise fouling, Vitali would have won the first fight. Something may have been wrong with Lennox’ gloves, Vitali never cut like that from punches in other fights.

Lewis refused the rematch for a good reason: he knew Vitali would beat him.

Who did Vitali struggle against? He was beating both fighters he eventually lost to. One of them was by a cut. How many fights get stopped by a cut? 10%? Maybe even less than that. Are you saying he struggled against Byrd? This is common sense. Byrd (a below average punching HW) would need to knock Vitali down multiple times (who was never knocked down in their entire career) in the last 3 rounds of their fight to win.

 

Vitali because he was improving and Lewis was getting worse. And one guy wanted the rematch.

Kind of like the Roy and Tarver rematch.
