I guess it depends what you're comparing him with, and what you're rating his competition based on...

Comparing him with fighters he was seen as an approximate equal of at his peak (ie: Joshua) - he's not remotely close.
Sticking with that example, there's a very real argument that his best win doesn't go into Joshua's top 3 (ie: old Wlad, old Pov and relatively green Parker are all better wins than old Ortiz).

Then look at his resume from the point of view of guys he was seen as better than... And his resume is certainly no better than theirs.

Or for a champion with as many defences as he has... It's not great.

It's still a solid enough resume compared with 99% of the heavyweights in the world, but for what he was supposed to be? It's lacking a bit, or a lot.

Sure, I do that all the time - and with other popular guys that people get a bit too hyped on (I upset plenty pointing out Zhang is a 50/50 fighter against top 100 guys, for example, or that Joyce wasn't nearly as proven as hyped, etc).

100% - those fights shouldn't happen, they can do no good for the sport and potentially a lot of bad.

Ngannou and Rico should've worked their way up like anyone else - at very least they should've had to start with a journeyman or two and worked up... Jumping straight in with champions is not on.

Having said that... Another double standard is the insistence on referring to rankings to defend some of Wilder's poor opponents - nobody ever rates Ngannou as an AJ opponent, and nobody brings up that he was technically WBC #10 at that point, rightly so because it was a junk ranking... I can't lie though mate, I bet if Wilder had fought him as a #10 ranked guy someone would use it in his defence.

To be honest, I think it's because there's an unusual degree of biting back...

Criticisms (fair and otherwise) get made of all sorts of fighters - with Wilder, no matter how mild or justifiable the criticism, there is almost always someone that'll wade in and either blow up an argument or "correct the record" with an unjustifiably over-exagerrated point in his favour... That then triggers people to respond, and we go around and around in circles, as we always do (and neither of us can pretend we don't get stuck in our fair share of times, can we?)

They should set up punching measurements for all relevant boxers and make it an advertisement argument. So anyone with good power would do the measurement. Maybe even give out money for records. Than we would know.

If I could choose to have the punching ability of one of the three it would be klitschko. Great technique, great kinetic chain, great weight behind, hard to see, good timing, hardly any tells, hook and straight.

Wilder is a freak, too. With shavers from what little I saw it seems his average punch is the hardest. But I don't know if he has the one hardest Punch.

Good point as power varies too. There’s different types of power.

The topic I think was about one punch ko power, but as with any thread involving wilder, turns into ridiculing him and his opponents

You are right, he was the first guy to knock him down with a head shot and the first to stop him.

Are we trying to keep this on topic about power or another wilder bashing thread? There’s plenty of those.
Everyone goes through the same points every time.

Shavers - You only have to hear what his opponents say about his power
Wilder - Due to his number of KO`s,admittedly against inferior opposition
    Vlad - Never impressed me

You can drop the "inferior opposition line" when comparing Wilder and Earnie Shavers.

In his 91 bouts, Shavers had 70 fights against inferior opposition. Go to his record and look for yourself. I posted on this yesterday. And he didn't even stop them all, or beat them all.

In his long career, Shavers fought about 21 fights against "name" opponents at various stages of their careers ... and he only scored seven KOs in those 21 fights. (Again, I listed them yesterday.) Wilder fought about the same number of fights against "name" opponents at different stages of their careers, in half as many fights as Shavers, and he scored KOs in 15 of them.

Shavers DID NOT have more fights against name contenders than Wilder. Shavers DID NOT score more knockouts against "name" fighters than Wilder. Wilder has more than double the KOs over name fighters than Shavers did.

Wilder has fought no one near the calibre of Ali and Holmes, though he didnt stop them go listen to what they say about Earnie`s power
Also Wilder could not stop the chinny Fury

Earnie Shavers couldn't stop chinny Ron Stander ... and Stander got knocked out 10 times. You don't want to start this argument, because the names are all there on Shavers' record.

Shavers couldn't knock out Quick Tillis ... and Tillis got knocked out 11 times.

Shavers fought about 21 bouts with name fighters (out of 91) ... Ron Stander and Tillis being two of them ... and Shavers scored 7 knockouts over them.

For the record, Tyson Fury has been knocked out a total of ZERO times.

Although Wilder had him down four times, more than anyone, I might add.
