Yeah it is getting ridiculous the kid needs a serious test.

 

The IBF have been very sloppy in their handling of this matter. To say the least.

But their hand will be forced on April 4th because there is what was already sanctioned as an IBF cruiserweight eliminator between Mateusz Masternak and Viddal Riley.

If the IBF have stripped Opetaia or intend to, the Masternak-Riley fight should be upgraded to be for the vacant title. Alternatively, they need to endorse the fact that Opetaia is still their champion.

Your move IBF...

 

nobody knows anything about this guy?

i know he's had his issues with the law but he's just disappeared.
makes me wonder if he's inside or not.

Jai Opetaia has now been officially stripped of his IBF cruiserweight title following his victory over Brandon Glanton.
Opetaia remains The Ring and Zuffa cruiserweight champion.

If I were Jai, think I'd be looking for a new manager.
Signed with Zuffa thinking it was the path to undisputed, but now that seems even further away.

 

Dylan Briggs after a well earned rest and now 12 WBC at MW has said The next chapter includes international opportunities and a planned 2026 campaign in Mexico.

In light of the IBF's decision, I'm inclined to only recognise Lineal champs from now on. I've always done that in relation to the Heavyweight division anyway. So Jai is the real Cruiserweight champ until someone beats him for that title in the ring.

 

I hope Beaudesert Storm gets better officiating over there than what Stevie Spark did. I reckon the WBC will take that WBC Silver belt off him & give it to a Mexican quicker than Speedy Gonzalez - the fastest mouse in all Mexico.

 

Speaking of Stevie Sparks, I heard that he was making a comeback, but that would have been at least 6 months or so now.

Jackson Murray has been sparring regularly and said " I miss the beautiful violence ". Wouldn't be surprised if he comes out of retirement with a rematch with Robutti in Aust . It would be his second visit after previous fighting Huni.

Interesting legal argument to be had.

The IBF were told pre-fight that the Zuffa title was a 'trinket' and the fight, although for the IBF title, 'would not be a unification fight.'

That seemed like a case of the IBF being fed b.s. so as they would allow Opetaia to defend their belt. BUT...

At that point in time the Zuffa belt WAS legally only a trinket because the Zuffa Boxing-backed Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act - effectively the update to the existing Ali Act - had not been passed at all the necessary levels.

Only yesterday - more than 2 weeks after the Opetaia-Glanton fight - the Ali Act was passed by the House of Representatives. It still needs to progress to be finally signed off on by the US president, a mere formality, one would think. Particularly when you factor in Trump's association with White.

In short, when Opetaia fought Glanton, the Zuffa belt was legally only a trinket. That is indisputable. As of yesterday, it went another step closer to transitioning from a trinket to a title, but it hasn't yet.
