Is Foreman’s “masterful ring cutting ability” a myth?

So I just watched the first 3 rounds of hte peralta fight , and what are you talking about?
It is Peralta trying to stick and move, George pressures him to the ropes and he attempts to fight his way out and Goerge jumps backwrads to avoid getting hit.

How did he struggle here? Cause he failed to KO him?

 

I think people excuse the Young fight way too much. Fact is Jimmy Young beat a prime Foreman by exposing flaws that were always there, not by beating some washed version of him.

Foreman was still in his physical prime, still dangerous, and Young controlled the fight with movement, positioning, and making Foreman reset over and over. That lines up with what we saw in spots against Ali early and even with Peralta.

So it’s not really a one-off or some post-Ali decline thing, it’s a style issue that shows up whenever he’s in with a good mover.

 

To hear the hardcore Foremaniacs tell it in the way that they frame his 70's career, one loss against Ali took him out of his prime, and one loss against Young took him out of the sport for a decade.

Let's take the stylistic issues off the table entirely for just a moment. How highly should I really rate young Foreman's resolve and mental strength compared to other champions given that?

 

He still only lost to Young outside of Ali, he was listless and looked terrible v Young.
How can you say it ls a style problem when it was only Young that beat him? He didn’t even move that much he just backed off Foreman. Young should have got the decision against an old but still good Ali too, It’s a stretch to say that anyone with certain style would have beaten George.

 

Foreman is arguably a top 3 heavyweight all time.

The amount of so called boxing fans lining up to trash his record is genuinely startling. The same people who criticise Foreman for losing to Young are often the same people that give Mike Tyson a walk for losing to Buster Douglas.

Go figure.

 

With his resume? Not even close.

I feel like htese guys don't actually watch the fights. Or they do watch the fights but they don't really know what is going on.

I had a guy say Peralta moved around and George couldn't hit him. Meanwhile I am watching Peralta be flat footed when he mvoes, George pressures him to the corenr adn Peralta tries to fight his way out instead of moving.

 

He’s top 5 at worst

 

I don’t get it either, Tyson has Douglas, Klitschko and Lewis lost to people they shouldn’t have. Even Louis had Schmeling, not only that, he got battered.
Its hard to find a great heavy without one blemish.

 

If the people who he fought with that style gave him trouble then the proper inference is that any good fighter with a similar style would give him trouble especially if they're better then who beat him. Not hard logic to follow

 

A fighter without anything close to a long reign at the top and only 3 great wins is top 3? Guess your standard for HW is pretty low.

 

Comparing shot to bits '81 Parkinson Ali to prime George Foreman is crazy talk.

 

Nope. Not even close. Too thin of a resume on the highest level. Foreman had great highlight moments, but didn't have the consistency and deph.
