Dave Allen vs Filip Hrgović set to headline Queensberry show in Doncaster on May 16

You took your time with your first post but I must say, I'm impressed. Seriously. Everytime I see Hrgovic fight, he seems to become disinterested from about the half way point of the first round. I'm always surprised he makes it through fights. If the guy with the bigger heart comes out on top in this fight, it won't be Hrgovic.

 

Unless Allen puts on a replay of his fight against Browne, and that’s a big if, he would have an okay shot of winning this fight

I won’t believe it until he tips the scales at 240 or less

 

By the way, I'm fully aware this is not how boxing works, particularly at heavyweight, but this is pretty crazy when you look at it.

Hrgovic beat Zhang. Zhang beat Joyce. Joyce beat Dubois. Dubois beat Joshua. Joshua beat Whyte. Whyte beat Chisora. Chisora beat Price. Price beat Allen.

 

At least Zhang is in his 40s, has **** stamina, and cant take a body shot - it would have been somewhat interesting, plus it would have been good to get Zhang in the ring again.
Hrgovic is a terrible matchup for Allen, even if they were in the same league.

 

Zhang would be Dave Allen's last fight. He hits so hard, and Allen has no defence.

An accumulation of body shots will always fall a fighter no matter its size, and Zhang actually did very well being in the fight as long as he did.

 

This would be a good thing. I like Allen, I really do, but he should have retired for good years ago. A semi-competitive fight with Hrgovic means he will continue fighting on.

 

Lets be real here. Hrgovic is in a different league to Allen for talent. But, boy he makes things difficult. He gets in fights he doesn't have to, has one of the worst gas tanks and doesn't have fight ending power. All that talent might not make a huge difference against an in shape; and there IS the kicker, Allen. Hrgovic can't force a pace so will likely fight at a pace that suits Allen. Adeleye dragged Filip into a war in places and Dave can do the same but with heavier hands and a better chin. I don't think Filip can hurt Allen and I don't think Allen can stop Filip but rounds 8-12 could be exciting and close. This could be a surprisingly close slow paced war....

 

World class boxer battering what will look like a glorified punch bag with a brain for 12 rounds or until his corner pull him in what will be a very very boring slow-paced fight between two guys with great chins so very little chance of a dramatic knockout to add a little sugar on this **** sandwich.

This is ridiculous. Hrgovic is bigger, stronger, longer, substantially more skilled, substantially more accurate, has a higher work rate (check out his punch stats vs Adeleye), and has the most accurate right hand in the division. Oh, and he's just as iron chinned as Dave Allen.

How in the world does Allen win this?

This is a huge mismatch, where Hrgovic uses Allen's head as a speedbag all night with 1-2's. Hrgovic isn't a big hitter and Allen has a good chin, so this goes to the cards. Hrgovic likely wins via shutout.

What's the point of this? I assume Hrgovic was offered a decent payday, and was like "lol, that's a very low risk opponent to me, sure, I'll take your money".

But why would Allen take it? If you're Allen's team, WHY would you take this? You want to put Allen against a world class guy, you need a world class guy with a weak chin. Not ****ing Hrgovic who has an iron chin.

I like Allen a lot but this is a bad match up

Not sure what happened to him having 2 more tune ups before a September showdown with a ranked foe, it seems he’s rushing into this fight

 

What’s crazy is I read that David Allen got his contract extended by Matcheoom. So I’m assuming if he loses this fight, which I would think he would, he’ll probably get a handful of easy fights and position himself for another bigger fight after this. I’m happy he’s making some good money and he’s getting a lot of notoriety from fans, but you would think his matchmakers would steer him into the fights he could win and not lose.

As I stated, if he shows up a single pound over 240, he’s gonna get destroyed in this particular matchup.

 

Hrgovic fights are easy to predict at this point. Hrgovic will get a cut fairly early on but dave wont be able to capitalize on it, Hrgovic will start to become uninterested around the mid to late rounds letting dave get a good round or two in but his chin will save him to get to a 12 Round UD for Hrgovic. Dave just doesnt have the skill or speed to win.
