Is Sebastian Fundora the best fighter at 154 right now?

His size and awkwardness is what makes him the most dangerous guy in the division.
The only guy I would favor to beat him is Ortiz and it would be a hell of a fight.

 

I appreciate that you are giving Fundora his props. I know you were frustrated after the first Tszyu fight but what has happened since them hasn't kept you from appreciating the Towering Inferno's skills.

 

I got nothing against him he seems like a good bloke but I genuinely believe Tim was on the way to stopping him before the elbow that caused the cut.

 

I can understand that. Tim had gotten off to a good start and it seemed like it could be a tough night for Fundora.

 

Woudld be an UGLY fight. Lots of high guard to get inside then lots of looping shots/uppercuts and clinching.

Easier said that'll done when you're dealing with a fighter with an elite jab and elite inside fighting. Plus monstrous height and reach.

 

He is definitely up there, but I think we need to put the brakes on a little bit. He fought Thurman, who has fought once in 4 years, and it was a KO win against a D-grade fighter. Thurman is 37 and completely past his best.

Fundora has shown he can be hurt in the past, has been knocked out by fighters who are not elite at 154, and has yet to truly test himself against a legitimate A-grade fighter at this weight. Thurman's best days were at 147 years ago.

Could he come out on top? Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised, but it's not like he's just broken down and stopped Ortiz or Boots in 6 rounds; he's done it to an ancient, basically part-time Keith Thurman.

He might not be the “best” but he’s sure as hell the hardest to fight against.

Let’s be honest, Fundora is a ****ing nightmare at 154 with those Inspector Gadget arms of his and the fact that you have to punch up to tag him.

There are technically better guys but none present the puzzle Fundora does.

 

Height and reach make inside fighting harder not easier. Youve forgotten that part.

He beat a washed-up semi-retired guy who was nearly an entire foot shorter than him.

I mean how would anyone know that? He hasnt fought an elite opponent yet and hes been downed by Lubin and downed/stopped by Mendoza. I also think Fundora has improved his range and he would be best advised to avoid fighting inside. Against a better opponent, an elite opponent, they'll actually stop Fundora from coming forward and block with high guard while coming inside. All these recent opponents are staying on the end of Fundora range and waiting to counter and Fundora has done a good job of keeping opponents defensive. He is still overcommiting and leaving himself wide open and I still worry about him getting beat inside as he only has uppercuts during those exchanges.
