Nice guy, but time to hang them up. He's not winning a world title. No point being a punching bag in there. Guys like Harrison, Gausha, Tszyu, Mendoza and others seriously need to question their careers. In my honest opinion Tszyu should have hung them up after he lost to Fundora for a second time. I don't see the point sparring all these rounds and taking more damage. Even if he wins a world title at what cost? Too many boxers fight too long.

Thurman too. His career was effectively over 7 years ago.

Winning a world title isn’t the only reason to stay a boxer. Lots of fighters know they’re not world level but have good careers, make lots of money, take part in good fights etc.

Mendoza’s win over Fundora has aged well. And his fight the other night was closer than the commentators were saying. I thought he won the first 3 rounds then funnily enough I thought after the headbutt he lost focus. Maybe he thought there was no way Tellez would survive the whole fight after such a bad headbutt and took his eye off the ball.

Fun fighter, tough as nails. Always good to see him on a card.

I kinda disagree with Tszyu. I think he needs time to learn some things defensively. Not an impossible task, I think Tszyu still has a lot of fught left in him.

He's lost 5 fights. That's enough. He's not going to make any serious money from here on in. He's only going to get damaged. Enough is enough. I know exactly where you're coming from but better to get out early than too late. He can't beat the best.

Just saw 15m purse on offer for Spence and Tszyu if Tszyu wins this weekend. Good on him.

That's real good. He's a good fighter. He just needs to use real defense instead of going all out offense. In some instances. I think he'll do well in the future.

Let me get this straight. We've got a superheavyweight running around at 154 destroying everyone.

And the only guy whose ever beaten him should retire at the age of 32 because hes got nothing else to offer the sport?

You are ignoring the CTE issue raised by the OP. Mendoza takes a beating every fight, win, lose or draw; and we don't enough about chronic concussion to determine his susceptibility to it. All contact sports are on notice; yet participants, administrators and supporters chose to bury their heads and avoid the obvious danger that way.

    True.

This might be a "boy who cried wolf" situation. I'm used to people saying "he should retire" about every fighter who loses once or twice. Maybe Mendoza really is done. The "he should retire" crowd is almost always wrong.

Just look at Tim Tszyu another example whose been mentioned here. People wrote off his career right away barely a second thought. Hes not done not even close.

Super Heavweight? Not even close. That win was how many year ago now? Mendoza is a gentlemen and had a good career. But he's lost 3 times since Fundora making it 5 in total. Enough is enough. No point being a journeyman and not earning that much while getting punched In the head all the time.
