Who is the most overrated heavyweight, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Tyson Fury, or others?

Ali's greatness has little to do with his skills, since he wasn't very skilled.

 

How can you get as far as Ali did without elite skills?

 

Tyson is the only HW who is called the GOAT by quite a few without a resume that remotely supports it. So Tyson.

Mike Tyson's resume is better than Jack Dempsey's, Jack Johnson's, Jim Jeffries, Rocky Marciano's, Sonny Liston's, Joe Frazier's and Larry Holmes', most of whom have been in the GOAT conservation at some point.

 

Some of the ones you mention have been popular picks for it in decades past, yes, but the question was in present tense. As in now.

And, no, Tyson's resume isn't better than Holmes's and, no, Holmes has never been a fairly common pick as GOAT. Neither have Frazier or Liston.

And it happens that Tyson is named GOAT p4p even. It's that cezy.

 

No, I don't think Tyson is the GOAT but his resume is underrated. And yes, it is better than Holmes' by quite a ways. Larry's best win is arguably edging out a Norton who was on the precipice of being shot. Meanwhile, Tyson tore a new a-hole in an era loaded with physical talent and skill.

Berbick was loaded with physical talent and skill? Thomas and Tubbs were a couple who at their best fit that description fairly well, yes, but the problem was that they were loaded with other stuff also. Biggs also had talent, but he started with drugs after his pro debut. The talent was there, but not realised.

Tucker was a good fighter, in his prime and in good condition apart from the hand injury, but he also gave Tyson a better fight than the others did.

Still, though, 86-89 was a very, very good run for Tyson, but then he got beaten soundly by someone who'd never have another win. And despite the revisionism he still had plenty left when an older and more shopworn Holy dominated him twice. Not edged on points, dominated.

I think Holmes beating every one he faced until he was 35 is the better resume, even though it wasn't done in such an emphatic fashion. And it's rare to see anyone say he was the GOAT. Don't know that I've seen it more than perhaps once.

 

Tyson Fury is by far the most overrated of these men. The other two are legitimate ATGs.

 

By having elite speed, reflexes, being smart and bigger than most people you face.
And having occassional help from refs.

 

In no way is that enough on it's own without having some sort of elite skill set.

 

I love the old time heavyweight champs from the 50s and before and enjoy their legacies. They may have been alltime greats in their day athletes however have greatly progressed just like all other sports. Thats particularly true of the heavyweights. The legends like most exaggerate the truth. We cling to our childhood hero’s but to take an honest look at reality we need to be sober and study it scientifically. We can love the oldtimers but realize they are no longer the all time greats head to head.

I think M. Tyson is somewhat overrated but he’s still in my Top 10.
