    Floyd.

Wilde was very special but he was involved in a division that was semi-recognised for much of his career, it was low on stocked fighters. His pound-for-pound achievements do a lot to remove that drag. Floyd on the other hand competed in a deep era across multiple weight divisions and never lost. I think it's kind of close but it's clear.

So you view the Wilde era as kinda weak?

I view the flyweight division of the era under-developed, semi-recognised.

    Wilde
Floyd can’t get to Wildes record in his wildest dreams even if he fights 150 Michigan cab drivers his body breaks down halfway through them

Horrific take, Wilde and Floyd shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. Floyds competition was astronomically greater than wildes and floyd is a much more skilled fighter by a high order of magnitude.

    Is that true though ?
Wilde beat lesser names but who knows if Floyd could deal with that schedule?
By all accounts Wilde carried his power longer through his career than Floyd could.
Better names for Floyd definitely but Wilde beat more bigger men, without the caveats Floyd put on his opponents.
The big one, a guy like Floyd doesn’t survive in that era, with that number of fights, he doesn’t have it in him.

It took Wilde until his 30th fight to fight anyone with more than 10 fights under their belt. Wildes resume is awful and pre 30s/40s the standard of boxing was much lower and nowhere near as developed. Give floyd wildes schedule and level of opposition, in a hypothetical situation adjusted for size of course and floyd runs through it without breaking a sweat, would be like sparring beginners. Give wildes floyds level of opposition and schedule, adjusted hypothetically for size of course and he gets brutally KO'd by most and made to look amateur. What floyd achieved is infinitely more difficult and is disrespectul to mention wilde in the same conversation.

We would have to say Mayweather on paper today.

However Wilde might be one of the most undervalued fighters today.

It comes down to paucity of surviving records.

Surviving records become less complete, the further back in time you go, and also the further down the weight classes you go.

During my time on this forum, Wilde had opponents who went into their pro debut on Boxrec, already holding the British Title.

Did they find it under a hedge?

What I am saying is that Wilde might be better than huis surviving record suggests, and possibly much better.

I’d say an ATG who went 137-4 can be mentioned in the same breath as an ATG who should have gone 47-2, with the odds favoured to him in at least half those fights.
    Disrespectful on Floyd’s part, maybe

    I find Wilde underrated myself.

But I agree it could be to do with how long ago he fought to a extent.

Semi recognized perhaps, but under developed?

I tend to view this era, and the one after it, as a golden era of the lower weight classes.

There was a lot of hunger, and there were a lot of small desperate men.

The 1920s lightweight division might well have been the strongest in the sports history.

The Flyweight division that emerges after Wilde, has an embarrassment of talent.

which fights did you score against floyd, and what are your scorecards by round. there's many fighters who have racked up records like wildes fighting bums regularly. very few fighters in history exceed floyds resume and achievements
