Maybe he’s a borderline case. He brought home a gold medal from the 88 Olympics. Went 7-4 in world title fights and also went 7-4 against past or present champions. Beat some good guys like Welcome Ncita, Junior Jones and Sugar Rojas.
This thread brings back a lot of memories, man. I actually went to The Overlake School with Carrie Brownstein!
I think he falls short of the HOF but he was a very good fighter. He would have had to at least beat Barrera for consideration.
He fought a Fight of the Year war with Barrera, and then demolished the champ (Jones) who wasted Barrera and beat Marco twice. Junior Jones should be in the Hall of Fame, too. Beat Barrera twice. Beat Orlando Canizalez. Tracy Harris Patterson. Tom Johnson.
It was a great fight with Barrera no doubt. Had he won, he would have a strong case for the HOF. Maybe he gets in at some point. Junior Jones was a great fighter as well and I feel like Jones has an even better case because he won titles in two divisions and beat hall of famer Barrera twice.
