Which celebrated victory aged badly?

The Fury-Wilder trilogy wins for Fury.

 

John L Sullivan v Charlie Mitchell.

 

Calzaghe-Lacey. Great at the time, but Lacey's arm got messed up and he was never able to regain any momentum.

Fury-Wilder II and III. Same sort of thing as above.

 

Probably Roy vs Tarver 2.

It was a miracle that Roy even won the first ime

 

Honeyghan - Curry maybe? To genuine boxing fans it was an enormous upset, but perhaps due to Donalds lack of sugar Ray charisma, it wasn't household news. It was later buried in memory by Lloyd's trouncing by Starling.

 

How about Chavez--Frankie Randall? Was considered big at the time but has hardly aged well.

I can see it hasn't aged badly on this board, but Usyk wins over Fury and Joshua does not light my fire. Joshua is done and Fury is a bit of a clown.

 

Corbett v Fitzsimmons - due to the early era of Marquis of Queensbury boxing, so much was made out of the enigmatic 'Solar-Plexus Punch'. Wow! Revolutionary it was. A body shot that was made quite mundane by fighters such as Olivares, Zarate, Chavez, et al, who made a living out of capsizing an opponent with a left hook to the liver.

 

Still a great win for Randall. Chavez was clearly slipping but Randall dropped him and finally broke that great run. It holds up as a great effort and the rematch controversy adds to it. Fight 3 best not mentioned though. Frankie’s decline was sad because at his best he was a very formidable fighter.

 

Ruiz was unbelievably fat for the rematch. He still deserves all the credit for the first fight.
