Just curious, are y'all starting to get that SOMETHING is wrong with the Moses Itauma narrative?

He is basically just like 80 percent of British youths tbh

 

I guess that’s the third option, either he was high/drunk, has signs of CTE or he’s just British

 

It’d be a shame to rush a promising young fighter like Itauma and ruin his hype.

 

I mean if it was a fight that happened this early summer, then it would make sense as there is simply absolutely no point wasting 6 months for Michael Hunter like he did with Franklin.

I'm not sure if Michael Hunter is a step up from Franklin really. If Itauma wanted to fight in the US to raise his profile there - is Michael Hunter the type of guy that can raise your profile in America? Andy Ruiz certainly would.

 

I did see something weird in an interview Itauma did right before his fight with Franklin. He was talking about how he had stopped boxing because he wasn't making any money off of it in the amateurs. About how his brother called him up and gave him a talking to and got him back to training by paying him for every kilometer he ran. Well, as part of that whole story, Itauma said he'd gotten two mild concussions and one serious concussion. That's why he wanted to quit boxing because he was taking damage while getting no money.

You never hear boxers talk about getting concussions even though it obviously happens when they get dropped hard or KO'd, etc. So here's a young kid coming up in the fight game and he's already complaining about having been concussed multiple times. We also know that he's been sparring legitimate world level competition since he was a young teenager. He might legitimately have a ton of miles on the old CTE odometer already.

 

Nobody knew who the hell Hunter was when he was still active and winning fights against legit competition like Bakole. The last time he fought was December of '24. And that fight was in Mexico. He's a complete unknown to everyone except the most hardcore boxing nerds. Fighting him in America does zero for Itauma.

The only American HWs with name recognition are Ruiz or Miller. If Itauma wanted a legit challenge he could take on Torrez, who has been calling him out, though no one knows who Torrez is either.

 

Completely agree. The only realistic Americans out there to raise Itauma's profile in America, that Itauma could fight is Ruiz or Miller.

We can safely say that Wilder won't take a risk on fighting Itauma.

Torrez isn't even really known in America even as an American himself, but it would be an interesting fight. Although, I can understand marinating a fight with him for a bit longer.

 

How many 21 year olds do you know that wouldn't get stumped in an interview? I think you're being a little harsh mate

 

Wardley is already fighting, he wouldn't get credit for fighting Sanchez or Gassiev either. So long as the hunter fight is purely an activity exercise while the other heavyweights free up it's not the end of the world, because most high profile heavyweights are either sitting on their mandatory spots or already have fights lined up.

 

This isn’t about Itauma is it.

The reality is the many boxing fans are frustrated at Usyk avoiding Wardley and Kabayel, and talking about fighting Kickboxers and a Fury trilogy as a send off.


You are trying to safe guard by criticizing a prospects relatively soft match making. He isn't the only one going back on his word. Lets not forget Usyk told us he'd fight the Wardley and Parker winner, among other things. It's getting a bit ridiculous isn't it.

 

Well, he did make a thread trying to justify Usyk fighting a kickboxer and that Itauma was somehow less deserving than Rico for a title shot...

 

Some people on here desperately want something to be wrong with Itauma, rather than actually believing it.

 

Itauma is a young kid and the pressure on him as a Boxer where he is at now will no doubt have his head all over as well as the fact I get the feeling his bosses have him on a tight leash and when the spotlight is on him the kid isn’t quite sure what to say for the best. What’s his next options ? Well fwiw I think Gassiev Sanchez Hrgovic are all valid opponents for him at this stage of his career and Wardley as well but he is tied up.Yes I believe people may well be frustrated with Usyk but his actions at this time have no bearing on Itauma and what he does next imo .
