Who's got the better legacy so far Wilder or Chisora?

Idk who do you think has a better legacy the guy with over 10 heavyweight title defenses or the journeyman who never held a title that lost 90% of the big fights he was in

It's not even close. Chisora never took the easy route.

 

Marion Wilson was also one of the GOATs, by this logic.

 

This is the kind of question that would only be taken seriously on a boxing forum. It's Wilder by a large margin, whatever happens tomorrow.

 

Crazy that Joshua managed to never face these three dangerous opponents:

Wilder
Fury
Chisora

They all must have ducked him.

 

Ortiz too, that was quite a saga.

Zhang was considered as a stadium fight in China but was ultimately swerved in favour of Jermaine Franklin.

I think being a World Champion will always see Wilder ranked higher than Chisora but Chisora has a fought more noteworthy names in his career. So one could make the argument that Chisora is a more tested fighter than Wilder, and given that they've both lost to Fury and Parker that suggests a similar level of ability, but having that World Title does tilt things in Wilder's favour.

No-one said anything about being the greatest of all time. If we can only pick who has the bigger legacy out of Chisora or Wilder than the answer is Chisora.

 

Legacy, broadly, is about how and when history will remember them...

Wilder will always be reminded as a champion, regardless of the asterisks - in that sense, he'll come up in conversations in his own right.

Chisora fought far better competition and was at no stage protected, he fought the more honourable career, but... He'll probably come up more in conversations about other fighters than in his own right.


In that sense, Wilder realistically has the greater legacy - whether that's deserved or not is an entirely different question.

The flipside, I guess, is that when they do come up in conversation, Chisora will get some measure of respect as the guy who wouldn't quit trying and would fight absolutely anyone, even when he probably knew he was likely to lose again... Where Wilder is more likely to come up in discussions about protected champs and power, which will likely be caveated by levels of opponents making it hard to judge him (the current arguments for him being anywhere near goat power will, IMHO, not last long).

 

Fighting and losing to lots of names doesn't give you a better legacy than a 10 defence champion/future hall of famer.

These are the top 10 guys Wilder fought:
Stiverne - only ranked in the top 10 due to his wins over Arreola and holding the paper WBC title.
Ortiz - solid top 10 guy, albeit old
Fury - came out of retirement, but clearly among the top 5, and most would have him in the top 3.
Parker - lol at that result, altho Wilder was old himself at that point.
Zhang - lol at that result.

Wilder has an inflated resume due to holding the WBC title, he barely fought any top names in the division, let alone beat them. I am not necessarily arguing that Chisora has the better resume, but merely stating that Wilders´ title reign is smoke and mirrors.

History will remember Wilder a lot more fondly than Chisora, but undeservedly so.

 

Think it's beyond clear and accepted that fury and wilder wanted nothing to do with Joshua and when Joshua was on the chisora was seen as a bum it's only now for whatever reason fans are getting so high on him which is baffling to me
