Max Reeves beat Francis Waitai on a split decision, which I thought was pretty wild. Reeves the clear winner for mine, that said, Waitai had some moments too, wobbling Reeves a few times.

 

Busy fight, big work rate Reeves Waitai. Worth a watch. Shouldn't really have been split

At the weighins, didn't he come out only yesterday and said he was going to “annihilate” ole mate, who is ranked 41.

I also recall before the last Fundora fight, Timmy said that he was prepared to die in the ring and ended up quitting on the stool.
Probably best just to be polite and respectful before the bout, rather than talk rubbish.

I had it 7-3 Reeves. I think Waitai sacrifices a lot of his power by having his feet so wide apart. Decent scrap anyway.

 

Peters paying $1.35 head to head and Will The Fight Go The Distance - No $1.95 was money for jam.

Cal looks like having a really bright future… but he’s going to want to keep that chin down at some point.

 

He gets hit quite a bit so I don't really understand them matching him with a puncher like that yesterday. Keep him away from guys who can punch & it takes away one of the few avenues that exist to beat him while he's on the way up. Take that off the table & let the kid climb.

Glad you collected but strange matchmaking to me. I mean, it was entertaining while it lasted but they (& he) would be better off matching him with more highly skilled guys with less punching power. He could defend the Australian title a few times & learn how to go 10 rounds.

Yeah but mate, at the end of the day, the other kid was from East Timor, where there are literally 2 other professional boxers (a feather and a super bantam). If Peters with his amateur pedigree can't get past a guy like that, everyone, including Cal, is wasting their time. He'd have had tougher spars, at the AIS, let alone international competitions.

That being said, Peters' performance was IMO horrible. That was his opportunity to box and show his class. Use his height and reach and get rid of old mate when the opportunity came. What he did was IMO, come up with a second rate performance and gave his opponent his only chance to win.

I like what Cal has in terms of marketability, his awkwardness etc. He's huge at the weight. But if he continues to stand with his chin in the air and winging punches, eventually he's going to come unstuck. I do however assume his team see that and will insist on adjustments from him. Hence me thinking he has a bright future.

I had it 6-4 Reeves, a lot of his shots were landing on the gloves. I think both these guys would be easy work for McIntyre.
