Lennox was literally paid millions in stepaside money by DKP so Tyson didn't have to fight him and Tyson could face Seldon instead. Then after Seldon, Tyson dumps the WBC so he wouldn't have to face Lennox. And instead chooses to cherry pick Holyfield who'd lost to Moorer and Bowe.

 

Maybe it's the fact he beat American fighters though

But tell me any HW who beat everyman he ever faced while fighting at world level for a 12 year period until he was 37. I'll wait

 

Yea Holyfield was a cherry pick gone wrong, he'd just been knocked out and was a 25-1 underdog. He'd also lost to Moorer. You yourself said he was past his best against Lewis because 'he had a heart attack', well that was 2 years before he fought Tyson. You can't have it both ways.

It was all supposed to be Holyfield-Tyson in '91-'92. Had that happened, heavyweight history would have been different in the '90's.

 

I think it's always been established Mike going to prison in '92 was the most disruptive thing to happen in boxing since Ali being exiled due to the draft.

Yes, the loss to Buster changed things already but Mike appeared like he was doing a good job of rebuilding things following his wins over Ruddock before the conviction.
