Delicious Orie: "I fear I would have been a depressed world champion"

I'd have been depressed suckling Sydney Sweeneys breasts.

 

Feels a bit like a bargain interview in return for what is basically a paid plug for the firm he’s with now.

Odd career path, given the interview context, and he’ll probably learn there are just as many snakes there as in the boxing world.

Still, he’s clearly a bright kid. He probably realised boxing had become pure vanity metrics for him, and the pro game is a completely different beast to amateur boxing on lottery funding.

And that’s the thing with fulfilment – somewhere, someone got bored with Sydney Sweeney and her assets and still went looking elsewhere. Novelty wears off, especially if there’s nothing under the hood

Edit – Sweeney also feels completely miscast as Christy Martin. Christy’s actual life story is beyond anything fiction could ever have invented.

 

His pro debut was awful. Looked a bag of nerves with wild inaccuracy in his punches.

Delusions of grandeur perhaps but on another note it’s refreshing to see a young guy put his mental and physical wellbeing ahead of money.

 

Yup, well said. That’s pretty much where I am with it too.

The pro debut did him no favours at all, and it’s easy to gloss over the bigger picture and forget people like Darren Sutherland, and just how brutally tough boxing is as a sport beyond almost anything else.

 

I don't see anything commendable about what Delicious Orie did at all. As a highly touted British heavyweight prospect a Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Paris Olympian who was once seen as the next big thing in the division he signed a professional contract after a bidding war for his services. That deal involved significant investment from trainers, promoters, and the team around him.

Then, after winning his pro debut on points just a month earlier, he bailed on the sport when the realities of professional boxing hit. I see no mental toughness in walking away like that only mental weakness. If he wasn't prepared for the grind and pressure of the pro game, he should never have signed that contract in the first place.

 

I’d never get bored with her. Fcking delightful.

Think they needed a big name actress for the role because how many people would be bothered otherwise.

 

Ha ha, see people always say that, but someone somewhere got bored with Emily Ratajkowski and Scarlett Johansson once upon a time, and eventually cheated on them, and much the same would apply with Sydney.

Yeah, I get why they went with her, but I’m sure I read there were others attached to the project way back, and I think the actual movie totally bombed, although I haven’t seen it.

Either way, the Netflix documentary on Christy Martin is well worth a watch – absolutely crazy ****ing story.

 

The huge pressure of expectation, combined with the brain damage any boxer invariably suffers with repeated blows to the head, is truly a recipe for depression and other mental health issues; it is no coincidence so many boxers fall into a bad path of erratic mental health, substance abuse and troubles with the law. For guys who can make a success out of themselves in other fields then it is probably wise to hang up the gloves early on.

 

The movie isn't too bad

It's very paint by numbers but totally watchable

 

Thats exactly how it comes across 100% BS

 

Its laughable and shows that he is delusional, his problems haven't gone away if he actually believes his claims.
