The point about the weight is silly cause Fury obviously came into the fights with Usyk heavy intentionally because he wanted to impose his size advantage

Fury in the Usyk fight was heavier than Firy was in the Wallin fight

He never would've come into a fight with Usyk that light


I thought the move to come in heavier vs Usyk the 2nd time was fine

He fought well in stretches but not enough

Having a high Ring-IQ doesn't help a body that had suffered from wars with Wilder and from Fury's own lack of discipline. His Ring-Age is perhaps the more pertinent factor here.

It's clear that Post-Wilder Fury was going to suffer at any pace he couldn't control and had to marshal his energy better as a result. Indeed, his efficiency while being smart on the one hand was, on the other, to his detriment. In pedestrian bouts against spent B and C level fighters he could put on a rather prolonged exhibition without having to push the envelope.

However, if an opponent could apply any kind of pressure, as seen in the Ngannou fight, his aura of control shrunk rapidly and significantly. Against Ngannou, at a very modest pace, Fury was almost undone. Usyk, being in a different strata than Whyte, Chisora, and Ngannou, was able to harness Fury's predicament to suit his own advantage in managing pace and control.

Regardless of what one thinks about Vitali's abilities in general, Lewis had to endure the heavy-hands at an exceptional pace of Vitali. Not only was Lewis able to endure but he was also able to respond – with heavier and more accurate artillery.

There's really no comparison between the fights in terms of the respective challenges posed by Vitali and Fury. The fact that Vitali was in his prime and Fury was notably past his, alone, should be sufficient to acknowledge this. Add the sheer wall of fire Lewis had to walk through to punctuate his victory and the gap only becomes wider. Add, further still, the difference in Ring-Age between Lewis and Usyk and the gap grows even wider again.

In the case of Marciano and to a lesser extent Quarry guys who couldn't make cruiserweight were complete non entities so the division wouldn't have suffered from excluding them.

There simply weren't any world class heavyweights in Marcianos era who couldn't make cruiserweight. Not letting them compete would not have made a difference for the quality of the division.

 

I might get **** for this but i think the best version of Fury has a shot at Vitali.. on common opponents Fury did better for what thats worth but stylistically he could give Klitschko real issues.. he made Wlad look clueless.. Fury can switch hit & he isn't a flat footed clubber like most of Vitalis opposition .. in fact Vitali v Fury is a bit of a dream matchup for me.. Klitschkos size advantage is null & void here too.. be a great fight...

The best version of Fury has a good chance of victory. I just don't like the odds for the '24 version.

 

The simple fact of the matter is that the big guys of the era couldn't compete. They tried.

If you think that somehow makes Usyk's cruiserweight wins heavyweight wins then there's nothing more to say lol
