Debatable. But Wilder will get in the HoF, Byrd will not.

It was a razor close fight between two washed up oldsters. It's a good thing that Wilder got the nod, because he showed slightly more aggression and desire, and the referee was actively trying to help Chisora all night. But your wide ass cards are nonsense. There was about a round or so in it.

I see no evidence Wilder was any sort of standout in his own era.

And Andy Ruiz an American heavyweight from the same era as Wilder is almost certainly making the hall of fame. So Wilder fans who almost universally don't rate Ruiz are going to have to find a way to excuse that.

It's not debatable. Byrd has Holy, Vitali, and Tua. Wilder doesn't have a single win of that caliber.

And why won't Byrd get into the HOF?

Dubbelchin you are a knowledgeable poster who knows his boxing but when it comes to Wilder you seem to go off the rails a bit.

    Demolishes Chisora ?

    Dozen knockdowns ?

Come on mate you are better than this.

It was two washed up fighters in a very sloppy contest.

Yeah there was some excitement but the quality of the actual fight was a poor standard.

Good for Wilder having a decent win and showing some heart I don't think anyone has ever questioned his heart.

But in reality both men need to retire.

Chisora is 42, beyond washed he has quite severe brain damage, and Wilder went life and death. Chisora has lost 14 times, he was splattered by David Haye when I was still a wee boy lol.

"I see no evidence Wilder was any sort of standout in his own era."

Ring had him as a top 4 heavyweight for 9 straight years. He was a 10 defence titlist over 5 years. Only Usyk, Fury and Joshua had comparable or greater impact on the era. He was only not a standout in your mind.

Ruiz is almost certainly not making the hall of fame. Buster Douglas isn't there, Ruiz won't be either.

Chris Byrd has been eligible for the International Boxing Hall of Fame since 2014 (12 years and counting). He's not even on the ballot.

So, it doesn't look good for him. You either get in the first year or so after you are eligible, or you get stuck in limbo. If you don't even make the ballot after a dozen years ... it's going to take some politicking to even get your name out there.

Also, Vitali Klitschko and Evander Holyfield both suffered what are termed in the medical profession as catastrophic shoulder injuries which required surgeries to repair. Vitali quit in his corner because of the injury. Holyfield was injured in the second round and fought on ... but the fight was already lost.

Both surgeries and injuries were widely reported.

There's nothing to suggest he was ever better than guys like Parker who beat him decisively as well as guys Kabayel, Joyce etc.

Even Dubois has better wins and I suspect he will lose to Wardley

I didn't respond for many days, until I saw the fight myself. I reserved judgement until I saw it. But during that time, I read all the nonsensical threads and hundreds upon hundreds of posts bashing Wilder.

It was a decent showing. Even if you had it close - 7 to 5 in rounds let's say - without the ludicrous and suspect calls of the ref, Wilder wins by a extremely large margin in points.

Wilder caused what should've been a standing eight in the third (the ref prevented Wilder from finishing an injured Chisora, stopping Wilder while he was punching to talk to Chisora for a while ... turns out Chisora got hit hard) ...Wilder dropped Chisora with a punch in the fifth ...he dropped him with a punch in the seventh, and Chisora pulled Wilder down with him ... Wilder dropped Chisora twice in the eighth, Wilder dropped him again in the 11th ...

Five different rounds ... what should've been five knockdowns scored and one standing eight ... so a 115-113 fight goes from that to 115-108 or 115-107 ... in any other arena in any other country.

All that even LEAVING OUT the fact of the Chisora cornerman running into the ring ... which is a DQ in England ... or at minimum a point deduction ...

Leaving out Chisora's brutal punch on Wilder after the bell ... again, normally warranting a point deduction.

Leaving out Chisora's team pushing him back into the ring in the eighth ... and the REF himself incredibly pulling Chisora back in the ring the second time he got punched out in the eighth.

Instead, despite THAT AVALANCHE OF POINT DEDUCTIONS or actual STOPPAGES anywhere else ...

That corrupt POS referee only called ALL THAT CARNAGE two knockdowns in Wilder's favor ... and two POINTS REMOVED from Wilder.

After each knockdown that he couldn't deny and HAD NO OPTION BUT TO COUNT ... he immediately, seconds later, took the same points from Wilder. Without missing a beat.

The ref refused to count the second knockdown in the eighth and instead took a point from Wilder ... and, when Chisora got up in the 11th, immediately ruled a slip by Wilder a knockdown.

Effectively turning the scoring of the fight on its head.

Yet, what was clearly a debacle by the Ref ... and a performance by Wilder that showed him keeping his cool, boxing, and pounding Chisora into the floor no less than five times, cutting his eye, beating him to a swollen pulp ...

We HAD a ton of guys on this board who picked Wilder to lose and didn't even see how he could finish against the #2 ranked IBF contender .. ignoring it all and saying Wilder barely won.

Wilder knocked Chisora down with punches more than Fury, Usyk, Klitschko, Kabayel, Joyce, Price, Takam, Helenius, Pulev etc. all did in a dozen fights COMBINED.

Good thing he did. Because, otherwise. he'd have lost. The FIX was in.

As for the DEMOLISHED line ... if Chisora floored Wilder five times and had Wilder hurt and calling for a time out in the third ... how do you think the people rooting for him would've reacted?

You think I'm over the top. If Chisora dropped Wilder five times and caused a standing eight, would Chisora's fans call that a DEMOLITION or would his fans say Derek barely won?

Even one of those occurrences in a round in another fight would've had people arguing for a week about it.

But that fight last Saturday had those happening round after round after round after round ... so many, in fact, that it seems many of you just found it to be too much and IGNORED THEM ALL.

Hell, even typing all of them turns these posts into a book.

That fight, fought exactly as it was, would've been a blowout points win by Wilder ... or a stoppage win.

But he did BARELY won on the cards because of one corrupt ref and one corrupt judge.

In truth, Wilder beat the hell out him. One forum member that night, one of the few in the round-by-round thread seemingly watching it with open eyes, compared it to the Baer-Carnera demolition.

IT was that kind of beatdown.

Were you the guy in the round by round who said a draw paid 18-1? :duh

This is a bit of a bizarre thread. People have accused Wilder of many things, but not having power is not one of them. Genuinely I am happy for Wilder that he got another (and possibly his last) win on a big stage, but people should be under no illusions as to what the fight actually was. In actuality the fight was a low-skilled back and forth brawl, against an aged, weathered fighter who wasn't particularly skilled even in his prime. Usyk genuinely could have beaten them both in the same night.

Well, you only have to do a simple search to find quite a few people on this board before and after that fight Saturday saying Wilder's punch was all made up.

And, in actuality, that fight involved the favored #2 IBF heavyweight contender (Chisora) ... who had no one rated above him but Usyk ... and was being talked about as one of the final opponents for Usyk ... who got the living crap beaten out of him.

And now Wilder, who has never been ranked by the IBF before, will probably become a highly rated contender by them and the WBO, where Chisora was also ranked in the top 10.

In fact, WBO champ Fabio Wardley has already called out Wilder and says he wants to defend against him this year.

So, no matter how people try to diminish the upset win by Wilder now, it's already caused repercussions.

Being top 4 ranked for 9 years is something. Having 10 defences, including a draw with Fury and two wins over Ortiz, is something.
